FEAST DAY: SS. Peter and Paul Croatian Roman Catholic Parish, 421 Covington St., Youngstown, will celebrate Feast Day at 6 p.m. Monday with a Mass and reception. This will be the parish's last Mass. On Thursday the church would have celebrated 115 years in Youngstown.

LIVE OUT LOUD: Corner House Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Road, Hubbard, will host "Live out Loud" a free Christian hip-hop concert at 6 p.m. Saturday. The event will include music, testimony and community outreach. A love offering will be accepted to support Larry Lenuel, who will be on a mission trip to Africa serving though youth camps and discipleship.

CHURCH 100 YEARS: St John the Baptist Maronite Catholic Church in New Castle, Pa., will mark its centennial with a Mass at 4 p.m. Saturday followed by dinner.

The church was established in 1926 by Lebanese immigrants who settled in western Pennsylvania in the early 20th century. The mission of the church is to preserve and share the Maronite Catholic faith while serving the spiritual needs of parishioners and the broader community.

Rooted in the traditions of ancient Antioch, the church has portions of the mass spoken in Aramaci, the language that Jesus spoke. The church is the oldest Maronite Church west of Philadelphia.

The theme is:"Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Present and Inspiring Our Future."

BIRDS OF THE WORLD: A Birds of the World program will take place at 1 p.m. Monday at the Ramsay Pavilion at Woodland Park in McDonald. Raptor Hollow Sanctuary will bring a variety of bird species to the show. To celebrate America's 250th, a bald eagle will be among the birds featured. RESEARCH TEAM: The Oakhill Volunteer Research team needs volunteers to help gather information on all the prominent and common people buried in Oakhill Cemetery. DAHLIA SOCIETY: The Mahoning Valley Dahlia Society will have its meeting 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Boardman Park, Georgiania Parker Room. The program will be "Bugs in Your Dahlia Garden" and is open to the public.

NEIGHBORHOOD BIKE TOUR: Join the Wean Foundation 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 16 for a neighborhood bike tour. Simultaneous tours will be conducted in Warren and Youngstown. Both tours will conclude at a special community night market at Avon Oaks Ballroom in Girard.

Registration will close once all spots are filled or no later than Friday. Participants may indicate their preferred city during registration; placements will be confirmed based on availability. More information on the kickoff location and tour route will be provided following registration. Participants must be at least 18. There is no charge for the tour and all participants will be provided with an electric bike, helmet and refreshments.

CEMETERY TOUR: There will be a walking tour of Riverside Cemetery in Poland at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The tour will include stops at several gravesites where reenactors will tell their stories. Meet at the cemetery chapel.

This event is free, but donations to the Poland Historical Society are welcome.

CHECKERS TOURNAMENT: The 46th annual John Pete Checkers Tournament will take place 1 p.m. today at Woodland Park, McDonald.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. The winner of each age group will receive a prize awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.

SCAM TALK: Dave Long, a columnist for The Vindicator, gives a monthly lecture on scams targeting seniors and how to avoid them at 1 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Poland Township Government Center.

MCDONALD HOMECOMING FESTIVAL: McDonald will host its annual summer homecoming festival Wednesday through Friday at Woodland Park off Ohio Avenue 6 to 11 p.m nightly. The festival will include bingo, amusement rides, games, food vendors and entertainment. The Run of the Mill race will be at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday followed by a parade at 6 p.m. along Ohio Avenue. On Saturday, there will be games and activities for children starting at 11 a.m. Fireworks will be at 10:15 p.m. Saturday to close the festival.

FUNDRAISER HELPS ANIMALS: Legacy Dog Rescue and Never Muzzled will host a community pet oxygen mask fundraiser noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at Quaker Steak and Lube, 5800 Patriot Blvd., Austintown. The masks will be for local fire departments. Pet oxygen masks are often not included in standard emergency equipment. These masks are specifically designed to deliver oxygen to dogs and cats suffering from smoke inhalation and respiratory distress. These masks are small, affordable and absolutely lifesaving, according to organizers. The community is invited to attend the large basket raffle, along with vendors and other fun activities.

MODEL AIRCRAFT CLUB: The Mahoning County Model Aircraft Club will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Shaker Woods Field in Columbiana New members are welcome. Members should arrive at 4 p.m. if they want to fly. Meetings are the last Wednesday of each month. In case of rain, the meeting will be at the Belleria Pizza on Market Street in Boardman.

DARK ROOM: The Girard Free Library will host the Dark Room Society at 6 p.m. Monday with a program "Worst Case Scenario" with a series of horror movies on a zombie apocalypse. CHALK ON THE WALK: The Early Childhood Resource Center, 6414 Market St., Boardman, invites families to celebrate community and creativity 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday for Chalk on the Walk Day. This free, family-friendly event encourages children and caregivers to showcase their artistic talents to transform the walkway outside the center's office into a vibrant community art display.

In addition to hands-on creative fun, attendees can participate in a Count the Yellow Crayons contest. One winner will receive a play pass to Fun-N-Games Rewind in Boardman.

STATE OF THE ARTS FORUM: Mahoning Valley Civic Forum: State of the Arts, a conversation about arts, culture and community, will take place at 5 p.m. today at Penguin City Brewing Company in Youngstown. The evening features facilitated table discussions followed by a City Club-style panel moderated by Karen Schubert, with panelists Becky Davis of the Butler Institute of American Art, artist and educator Bill Mullane, art patron and artist Dr. Virginia "Dee" Banks and Lynnette Forde of the Youngstown Foundation. This is a free, public event and a timely conversation about the role the arts play in the life and future of the Mahoning Valley. It also will be recorded and played on WYSU at 1 p.m. Friday.

RAILCARS DISPLAYED: The Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association Museum, 1340 Poland Ave., Youngstown, will be open 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. There will be two cabooses visitors can walk through, as well as other displays. Cost is $2 per person.

MAHONING RIVER CLEANUP: Help protect and restore our local waterway at the next Friends of the Mahoning River cleanup, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting. Meet at Thomas Swift Park, Warren, at 9:45 a.m. Cars will shuttle to the takeout at Canoe City in Leavittsburg.

This is primarily an on-water cleanup, but there is work to do on shore if you do not have a boat. Wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, as well as sunscreen and a hat. Bring your own water bottle.

TWILIGHT RUN 5K: Join the Canfield XC Boosters for the Twilight Run 5K, 9:30 p.m. today, starting and finishing at Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive. The race starts at Canfield High School's track, through residential streets to Mill Creek MetroParks Hike / Bike Trail, and finishes at the track.

Awards given to top overall male and female, and top three males and females in different age groups.

Registration ends at noon today at runsignup.com. Cost is $30. Packet pickup takes place at Canfield High School on race day beginning at 8:30 p.m.

All race proceeds benefit the Canfield Cross Country program.

YSU SUMMER ART CAMP: The Youngstown State University Department of Art will host its summer art camp 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 to 26 at Bliss Hall on the YSU campus. The camp is designed for students ages 13-18. The camp will provide students with hands-on studio experiences across a range at of artistic media including painting, printmaking, photography and graphic design. COLUMBIANA COUNTY PRIDE: The fourth annual Columbiana County Pride Festival will take place 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Eleanor Acres in Lisbon. This year's celebration promises a full day of entertainment, community connection and local pride, featuring performances across two stages, indoor and outdoor seating areas, more than 50 vendors, food trucks, artists, nonprofit organizations and community resources. The festival welcomes about 750 attendees from throughout the Mahoning Valley and surrounding region to come together in a spirit of inclusion, support and celebration

DOG VISITS LIBRARY: Toshi the therapy pug will take part in the themed storytime 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Girard Free Library. The public can meet and pet Toshi, a member of Furever Friends Therapy Dogs, a nonprofit registered with the state.

CIVIL WAR TALK: The Canfield Historical Society will look at one soldier's Civil War experience in "Jacob Shenkel, an Ohioan at Gettysburg" at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Canfield Library's large meeting room. Timothy R. Brookes will make the presentation. The talk is free. Shenkel served with the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry and kept a detailed diary of his experiences during the Battle of Gettysburg.

SEED EVENT: A seed donation event will take place 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Pocket Park at the corner of Berkeley Avenue and McGuffey Road, Youngstown. The Healthy Community Partnership of the Mahoning Valley is sponsoring the event.

WALK AND CHALK: The McDonald summer recreation program will kick off the season with a Walk and Chalk event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodland Park. Children can decorate the sidewalk in front of the park. Children can meet at the splash pad to find the sidewalk they want to decorate. There will be buckets of chalk available.

SUMMER KICKOFF AT ACADEMY SPORTS: Academy Sports + Outdoors, 1280 Doral Drive in Boardman, will host a free summer kickoff event 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. There will be classic outdoor games, a dunk tank, a meet-and-greet with local police and firefighters, kids' bicycle decorating and a bicycle parade at 2 p.m. for children 10 and under.

WHATEVER IT TAKES: Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will offer a program titled "Whatever it Takes" at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. The program is designed to empower participants to set meaningful goals and focus on mindfulness. The program is free, but a free-will donation will be accepted.

OPEN HOUSE: The Moss Ancestral Home, 1499 Burnett St., Mineral Ridge, will be open 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Mineral Ridge Historical Society house located across the street also will be open. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the house and give tours. Mary Lou Godleski, a Moss family descendant, has been contributing to the restoration of the house since 1990.

ROBOTICS TEAM PLACES FIRST: Falco Tech, FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3193, competed at the Ohio State Robotics Championship on Saturday. The competition included the top 32 teams in the state. The team finished first overall while on an alliance with Ozone Robotics (4611) from Olentangy Schools in Columbus and The Beak Squad (4028) from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.

Falco Tech is now a community-based team in Austintown after a 17-year relationship with Austintown Local Schools ended April 1. The team now is able to accept students from anywhere in the area. The team is looking for a new space to continue the FIRST Robotics programs for students in kindergarten through high school.

RIVERFEST 2026: Friends of the Mahoning River is coming to Lowellville for the 15th annual Riverfest 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with a day of family fun, environmental education and river recreation at Lowellville Riverfront Park.

A ribbon cutting for the newly improved park is at noon. There will be local vendors, kayaking with Buckeye Water to Trail Adventures, a pop-up library and musical acts. Food trucks will be on site, as well as Lowellville’s local pizza shop. Beer and wine will be available at Carlson’s alongside an outdoor stage.

BOOK SALE: The Friends of the East Palestine Memorial Public Library is hosting its annual silent auction and book sale 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The book sale will feature a $7 bag sale and will take place in the library basement. The silent auction will take place in the library community room.

A preview night will be offered 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday. There is a $5 admission fee. The preview night is for the book sale only.

There is a huge selection of DVDs and puzzles this year along with a great selection of hardback and paperback books, which are shelved by authors and interests to make "shopping" easy.

There is a wide variety of items and gift certificates in the silent auction that have been donated by businesses and patrons of the Library.

WALK WITH A DOC: Youngstown State University's Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall.

The program takes place 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. This final session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall. The topic is Alzheimer's Month.

Walk with a Doc is part of an international nonprofit founded in 2005 to encourage healthier lifestyles through movement and conversation with medical professionals. The walks are free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome, and no registration is required.
