Tree dedication planned at YSU

YSU EARTH DAY: An Earth Day tree dedication will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the west side of Tod Hall on the Youngstown State University campus. The dedication is for the YSU Legacy Forests program 2020 freshmen campus tree. There will be a program on YSU’s efforts to reduce climate change by planting trees. Every year the YSU Legacy Forests program will plant trees equal to the number of incoming freshmen. The 2020 freshmen microforest was planted by YSU students last fall. This spring, YSU is dedicating a campus tree with a plaque to honor the freshmen class. Guests are required to wear masks and social distance.

STAND AGAINST RACISM: The 2021 National Stand Against Racism has the theme “From Declarations to Change: Addressing Racism as Public Health Crisis.” The YWCA of Mahoning Valley will hold a Stand Against Racism event noon Friday that will focus on the challenges women of color have faced on their pregnancy journeys. “Maternal and Infant Health: Stories from Women of Color.” The event will be via Zoom. POLAND SOCIETY TO MEET: Poland Historical Society trustees and representatives of each of the committees will meet 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the township administration building, 3339 Dobbins Road. Those attending are asked to wear a mask. There is a limit of 30 people in the room. Regular business will be handled at the meeting.

FOOD PANTRY: Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Austintown will hold a food pantry distribution 2 to 5 p.m. Friday for those needing assistance. The pantry is only able to be offered once a month.

CAR SHOW: The Mahoning Valley Olde Car Club is working to plan several events for this year. Tuesday Night Cruises will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays at Buffalo Wild Wings in Austintown starting May 5. There will be a car cruise 5 to 8 p.m. April 27 at the Wedgewood Pizza in Austintown. Masks will be required at the events. For more information on the club, visit the MVOCC Facebook page.

WOMEN’S CLUB LUNCHEON: The Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Club is hosting a luncheon 12:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Beef and Keg Restaurant, formerly Johnny’s, corner of U.S. 224 and Market Street. The federation’s Club Woman of the Year will be announced. This will be the first luncheon for 2021. Social distancing will be followed. Masks must be worn except when dining.

Cost is $20 for members, and nonmembers are welcome.

APPOINTMENTS OPEN FOR VACCINE: Mahoning County Public Health is announcing the opening of 1,000 appointments for the area’s regional mass vaccination clinic, located at the former Dillard’s Department Store at the Southern Park Mall in Boardman.

The Moderna vaccine will be available for appointment times on Friday with the follow up dose scheduled on May 21. Appointments can be made through MCPH’s scheduling system, ArmorVax, which can be found at www.mahon inghealth.org.

For those needing assistance with the online scheduling system, call 330-270-2855, Option 9. You must be 18 years of age or older to receive the Moderna vaccine.

Additional appointment dates and times will be made available each week based on demand and vaccine availability.
