FABRIC FRENZY: Community members and sewing enthusiasts are invited to shop, donate and support local youth during the annual Fabric Frenzy, hosted by Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County. Fabric Frenzy features a large selection of fabric and sewing-related supplies available to the public in exchange for a donation that benefits Mahoning County 4-H youth development programs.
Community members can donate fabric and sewing supplies 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. between Friday and May 22, Monday through Friday. Donations may include fabric, notions, patterns, yarn, sewing tools and other craft materials in good condition.
The public is invited to shop the collected materials during the Fabric Frenzy sale, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 29 and 9 a.m. to noon May 30 at the Extension Office, 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.
Proceeds from the donation-based sale will directly support Mahoning County 4-H youth programs.
QUOTA CLUB SCHOLARSHIP: The Quota Club of Salem is accepting applications for the annual Mona McArtor Scholarship from students attending Salem, Beaver Local, Lisbon, Louisville, Sebring and West Branch high schools.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded each year to a student going into an undergraduate or graduate-level program and pursuing a career in speech / language pathology and / or audiology or deaf education.
Application forms are available at the guidance offices of the local high schools or by calling Ann Smith at 330-831-1019.
The completed scholarship application and two faculty reference letters are due no later than May 5.
AFTERNOON AT THE MUSEUM: The Springfield Township Historical Museum, 14188 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, Petersburg, will reopen Sunday after having undergone a cleaning, reorganization and refurbishment of the first floor. The museum opens at 1:30 p.m.; the program starts at 2 p.m.
The first speaker of the series for 2026 is Dave Long, whose topic will be “Senior Targets: What Seniors can do to avoid becoming the target of scammers.”

MENTAL HEALTH SYMPOSIUM: Coleman Health Services is marking the fifth anniversary of its Unmute the Uncomfortable symposiums tackling relevant issues surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. This year’s program, “The Human Algorithm: Connection in Crisis,” will explore how the human experience meets the digital world, chatbot therapists, invisible bias, socially responsible AI, the intersection of mental health and social media and policy solutions.
The keynote speaker is former WNBA player and poet Imani McGee-Stafford.
The daylong event will take place May 7 at the Eastwood Event Centre in Niles. The cost is $100, which includes breakfast and lunch.

POP UP SKATEPARK: The Youngstown Skatepark Association in partnership with the Youngstown Parks and Recreation Department will kick off the season with a free pop-up skatepark series 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Richard and Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center, 903 Otis St., Youngstown. A portion of the park space will be transformed into a pop-up skatepark for skateboards, BMX bikes, scooters, in-line skates and roller skates. Helmets are required for riders under 18, who must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian.

LIBERTY CLEANUP: Liberty Township will host its 31st annual community litter cleanup 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Any clubs, groups or families interested in cleaning a neighborhood street can meet at the township administration building, where they will be assigned a street or choose one. Students who need community service credit hours can find the sign-in sheet at the administration building. The event is being sponsored by the Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste Management District and Liberty trustees, who will supply bags, gloves and giveaways.

FLYING HIGH PLANT SALE: Flying HIGH Inc. will host its 2026 annual plant sale across two locations from Tuesday through May 30.
The annual plant sale will kick off at the Access Healthy Foods Mahoning Valley Greenhouse at the Campus of Care in Mineral Ridge Tuesday through May 9, followed by a second phase at GROW Urban Farm in Youngstown from May 11 through May 30. Hours for both locations are Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Shoppers can choose from a wide selection of plants, including: $5 for a six-pack of flowers or vegetables, $20 mix-and-match flats, $8 for 6-inch potted flowers and coleus, $20 hanging baskets and ferns, and $12 for 6-8 inch tomato plants.
In addition, bonus plant selections will be available in limited quantities while supplies last, with varied pricing. All plants are grown with care through Flying HIGH’s Access Healthy Foods Mahoning Valley and workforce development efforts, which provide hands-on training and employment opportunities for individuals in the community. Proceeds from the sale directly support these programs, helping individuals build skills, gain employment, and improve their quality of life.

RED CARPET FOR AUTISM: The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley (ASMV) is partnering with UAW Local 1112, which is hosting and sponsoring the upcoming Red Carpet Family Dance from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The event will take place at the UAW Local 1112 Union Hall, 11471 Reuther Drive, Warren, where the union is opening its doors to create a welcoming and inclusive evening for local families.
This Hollywood-themed night is designed to celebrate autistic individuals of all ages, along with their friends and families, in a fun and supportive environment. Guests can walk the red carpet, enjoy music and dancing, and connect with others in the community.
ASMV serves the tri-county area of Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties, and families from all three counties are welcome to attend. Event highlights include a red carpet photo experience, games and dancing for all ages, and food and drinks provided by UAW Local 1112.
There also will be multiple basket raffles. Guests are encouraged to bring cash, as credit cards will not be accepted.

ANIMAL BABY SHOWER: Mill Creek MetroParks will host its annual farm animal baby shower 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road, Canfield. INSPIRING MINDS GALA: Inspiring Minds will celebrate its 20th annual fundraising gala 2 to 5 p.m. April 25 at its headquarters, 837 Woodland St. NE, Warren. This year’s gala, presented by 7 17 Credit Union, marks a major milestone for the organization as it celebrates 20 years of Inspiring Minds and the thousands of students whose lives have been impacted through its programming.
The gala will showcase a new format this year, featuring a seated culinary experience intertwined with student and community presentations. The event will include student testimonials, volunteer testimonials, the Class of 2027 senior presentation and alumni testimonials.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING: The Oak Hill Collaborative, in partnership with GreenBoard IT, will host an E-Waste Collection Drive 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at 507 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown.
Items that will be accepted include laptops, desktops, PCs, phones, hard drives, CDs, servers, DVD players, routers, cameras, radios, keyboards, gaming consoles and LCD monitors.
Items that will not be accepted include CRT monitors, printers, TVs, medical equipment and kitchen appliances. All device data will be destroyed by GreenBoard IT before recycling.

INTERNET SAFETY: An Internet Safety Awareness night will be offered 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Girard High School presented by Girard FOP Lodge 52. The event is for families, parents and friends. Food will be served at 5:30 p.m.

BARN QUILT: The Ohio State University Extension Mahoning County will offer a barn quilt painting workshop initiative at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, where people can design and paint their own decorative barn art. UNIVERSITY WOMEN: The Youngstown Branch of the American Association of University Women will present a roundtable presentation discussion titled “Empowerment and Collaboration through the Arts” at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Way Volunteer Resource Center, 8133 Market St., Boardman. The goal of the event is to incorporate art that can create well-rounded individuals. There will be a panel discussion of representatives of different organizations.

HELPING BUNNIES: A Rebel Rescue Ranch fundraiser will take place noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Penguin City Brewery, 460 E. Federal St. in Youngstown. The event includes snuggling with bunnies from the ranch, various merchandise, a breakfast and raffle featuring more than 20 Easter baskets. Rebel Rescue Ranch is located in Berlin Center and is a nonprofit animal sanctuary specializing in exotic and farm animals.
SPRING CLEANUP: Spring cleanup at the Girard City Cemetery has begun as city employees will be removing any Christmas decorations starting in April. The removal is to prepare the cemetery for Memorial Day.

WALK WITH DOC: Youngstown State University’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall.
The program takes place from 10 to 11 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month and is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. Each session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall. The events are designed to promote fitness, wellness and preventive care in a fun and social environment.
