CLEANUP AT CEMETERY: Tod Homestead Cemetery on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown has set its annual cleanup on March 16. All decorations on graves, including solar lights and artificial flowers in cemetery vases, will be removed at this time. Anyone wanting to recover the decorations must do so before that date.
ASSOCIATION TO MEET: The American Business Women’s Association Mill Creek Chapter will meet at 6 p.m. March 10 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Dinner is at 6:30 p.m. The speaker is Linda Barton, founder of Sweet Memories Vintage Tees and Candy in Girard. Cost is $19. Reservations are needed by calling Darlene at 330-755-9089.
CLOTHING OFFERED: The Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, has new and gently used clothing for the entire family. During March, men’s and women’s coats will be $5 each, children’s coats are half price and adult sweaters are $2. The closet is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m every Tuesday.
GUEST SPEAKER: Eric Garcia, Washington Bureau chief and senior Washington correspondent at the Independent and an autism advocate, will be the guest speaker at 6 p.m. March 19 at the Youngstown Press Club, which will meet at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., Youngstown. Garcia will discuss myths about the autism spectrum disorder. The program moderator will be Sean Barron, a correspondent for The Vindicator and Tribune Chronicle. The program is free to the public. Reservations are needed at YoungstownPressClub.com.
SOCIETY TO MEET: The Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Church, 7345 Reserve Drive, Boardman. The meeting will take place in the ministry building. The speaker is Roslyn Torelela, who will present Using ChatGPT and AUI Tool for genealogy research. The program will inform attendees how artificial intelligence can be used to find family historical information. The public is welcome.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Habitat for Humanity of the Mahoning Valley is accepting applications for its home ownership program, including a new project set to start in Warren followed by a house in Mahoning County. Applications can be found at HabitatHumanity.org or may be picked up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown.
LIBRARY PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will host the Cozy Crafters at 6 p.m. today. Those who attend can knit, crochet and embroider and will be able to share tips with one another as they work on current projects.
WALK WITH A DOC: Youngstown State University’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall.
This month, the program takes place 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and the topic is balance. The walk is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. Each session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall. The events are designed to promote fitness, wellness and preventive care in a fun and social environment.
Walk with a Doc is part of an international nonprofit founded in 2005 to encourage healthier lifestyles through movement and conversation with medical professionals. The walks are free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome, and no registration is required.
COIN CLUB TO MEET: The Wheatland Mercer County Coin Club will have a special monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wheatland Community Center (formerly called the Wheatland Borough Building).
The address is 71 Broadway Ave. in the Wheatland neighborhood of Hermitage. This month is a potluck picnic and the club will provide the meat, buns and beverages. Members are requested to bring a side dish.
Monthly meetings include a special raffle, main raffle, coin auction, door prizes, birthday prizes and much more.
Every member will be awarded one free coin and may participate in the raffles. More information is available on the club’s website.
ALZHEIMER SUPPORT: Alzheimer Network support group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hermitage Municipal Building, 800 N. Hermitage Road. Due to winter weather, dangerous road conditions and a recently announced flu variant, the group is initiating a “call-in reservation policy” for those who wish to attend one of the regularly announced support groups. A support group meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center, 855 Howland Wilson Road.
