BIGFOOT PRESENTATION: The Youngstown Torch Club will host Bigfoot investigator Amy Bue at its meeting 7 p.m. April 8 at Davidson’s Restaurant, 3636 Canfield Road in Cornersburg.

A writer and former educator from Northeast Ohio, Bue has worked closely with other experts to make the subject of Bigfoot less taboo in scientific circles.

The talk is free and open to the public.

ABWA MEETING: The April 14 meeting of the Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will take place at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. GENEALOGIST RESEARCH: If you would like to learn more about researching cemeteries (specifically Youngstown’s Lake Park Cemetery and Oak Hill Cemetery), join the Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Parish, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman. The meetings take place in the ministry building at the rear of the church. Light refreshments will be provided.

WALK WITH A DOC: YSU’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall. The program takes place 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. Each session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall.

The walks are free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome, and no registration is required.

GRIEF WORKSHOP: Lit Youngstown will host a writing workshop series for adults experiencing grief. These sessions will include group poetry readings, peer-led discussion, thought-provoking prompts and the opportunity for participants to share work.

LIONS SCHOLARSHIP: The Lions Club of Poland is offering its annual $1,000 scholarship to the 2026 class of Poland Seminary High School. The scholarship is available to those bound for trade school or college.

HUNGER CAMPAIGN: Second Harvest Food Book of the Mahoning Valley is hosting its 34th annual Harvest for Hunger campaign, which spans throughout the months of April and May with the goal of helping the food bank restock its shelves for the spring and summer months. Those looking to get involved in the campaign can mail a check or money order to Second Harvest Food Bank at 2805 Salt Springs Road, Youngstown, OH 44509. For every $1 given, the food bank can distribute $10 worth of food or the equivalent to five meals. Additionally, folks can donate through Giant Eagle’s Check Out Hunger effort, which is a cashier-led initiative that gives customers the opportunity to donate $2, $5, $10 or any other preferred amount at the register through May 31. Last year’s Harvest for Hunger campaign raised more than $351,000 and collected nearly 14,000 pounds of food, which provided more than 1.7 million meals in the Valley.

GRASS ROOTS GALA: To celebrate another year of working to improve Youngstown’s downtown area corridors and adjacent neighborhoods, Youngstown CityScape will present its 16th annual Grass Roots Gala at 7 p.m. today at Stambaugh Auditorium, where Scott Schulick, one of the founding members, will be honored. For nearly 30 years, Schulick has been a driving force behind downtown revitalization. Social hour is at 5:30 p.m. Since 2001, CityScape has presented the David and Pat Sweet Grass Roots Award. FUNDRAISER: Rebel Rescue Ranch in Berlin Center will host a fundraiser noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Penguin City Brewing, East Federal Street in downtown Youngstown. ENTRIES SOUGHT: The YWCA of the Mahoning Valley is accepting entries from women artists for “A Celebration of Life” juried art show that showcases work by local, regional and national women artists. JCC SPRING BREAK CAMP: The Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown, is offering a spring break camp for students in grades K-8, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 1-3 and April 6-10. Kids will enjoy science experiments, swimming, Olympic-style games, a petting zoo, a carnival day and more. Morning and afternoon snacks are provided, but students must bring a packed lunch.

SISTER ACT: THE MUSICAL: The Austintown Fitch Drama Club will present “Sister Act: The Musical,” 6 p.m. today and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Austintown Fitch High School. EASTER EVENT: Smith Corners Community Church and Cornerstone Church plans an Easter Egg-sperience 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 3000 Canfield Niles Road, Austintown. The event is for children ages 12 and younger and will include crafts, face painting, balloons, egg decorating and egg hunts.

TASTE OF LIBERTY: The fourth annual Taste of Liberty will be 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Liberty High School. OPEN HOUSE IN LIBERTY: The Liberty Township Police Department will host an open house starting at 5:30 p.m. today followed by a town hall at 6 p.m. The public can tour the police department off Churchill Road, meet police officers and get clarity on the police levy that is on the May primary ballot. Guest speakers will be State Rep. David Thomas and police Chief Ray Buhala.

OPEN HOUSE AT CENTER: The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center Adult Career Center on Palmyra Road in Canfield will host an enrollment open house 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. Campus tours will take place so prospective students can see different career training prorgams. Those attending also can find out about potential funding sources to help pay for their education.

NOPEC PROGRAM: The Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive, will host an informational session to help residents better understand Austintown Township’s upcoming participation in NOPEC’s electric aggregation program.

This resident-focused session will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the center and provide information about what electric aggregation is, how it impacts households and how residents can make informed energy decisions. The event is designed to ensure residents feel confident and informed about their energy choices as the

township transitions into the program.

PINWHEELS BREAKFAST: Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley’s Child Advocacy Center and Mahoning County Children Services will host their annual Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention breakfast at 9 a.m. April 2 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. LATTES WITH LEGISLATORS: The Stadium Club at Youngstown State University will host Lattes with Legislators 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday at YSU. State Rep. Ty Mathews and House Majority Whip Nick Santucci will discuss issues impacting our region and state. Mathews is serving his first term in the Ohio House and represents Hancock, Hardin and northern Logan counties. A U.S. Army National Guard officer and Iraq War veteran, Mathews serves as vice chair of the House Veteran and Military Development Committee and sits on the Development, Government Oversight and Natural Resources committees.

House Majority Whip Nick Santucci of Howland, who is in his second term, represents portions of Trumbull County and serves as chairman of the Sunset Review Committee and vice chair of the Ohio House Redistricting Committee. WILDLIFE LECTURE: The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley welcomes Cheryl Mattevi, retired KSU geology professor and volunteer at the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center, who will present “Wildlife in Ice Age Ohio,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. CARNIVAL AND DANCE PARTY: The Abilities Unite Foundation of the Mahoning Valley, formerly the Fairhaven Foundation, is hosting its annual Abilities Rock Carnival & Dance Party on Saturday at Waypoint 4180, 4180 Westford Place, Canfield.

In conjunction with DD Awareness Month, this event, specifically designed for the developmentally disabled community in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties, features a DJ-led dance party, various accessible carnival games, prizes, balloon twisters, face painters and carnival-themed treats.

This event is broken into three sessions: “Quiet Carnival,” for those who prefer a more subdued and sensory-friendly experience, 10 to 11 a.m.; a general session 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and the final session, 2 to 4:30 p.m.

ADOPT-A-BED FUNDRAISER: In celebration of National Agriculture Week, Flying HIGH Inc. GROW Urban Farm invites the community and local media to attend the kick-off event for its Adopt-a-Bed fundraiser 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Access Healthy Food Mahoning Valley Greenhouse (Building 4) at the Mahoning Valley Campus of Care, 1960 E. County Line Road, Mineral Ridge.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the greenhouse and view a variety of flowers and produce currently being cultivated. These plants will later be transferred to raised garden beds at GROW Urban Farm in Youngstown, where they will be grown and harvested before being distributed through Flying HIGH’s Mobile Markets. Photos showcasing the garden beds in full bloom will also be on display.

The Adopt-a-Bed program allows individuals, families and businesses to sponsor a raised garden bed for $50 for the 2026 growing season. Adopt-a-Bed forms will be available at the event; community members can also participate online at fhipdc.org/grow-urban-farm.

POLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY: As part of Poland’s America250 celebrations, the Poland Historical Society is hosting a special program on the history of Poland schools. Trustee Larry Baughman will take participants back to 1802 tracing more than 224 years of educational excellence. The program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Poland Union School cafeteria, 30 Riverside Drive.

Another America250 event is planned at 7 p.m. today at the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St., where a family night will be held with a showing of the movie “April Morning.” The event is free.

TRUNK SHOW: “That Quilt Group I Belong To” will host a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rotary Building at Fair Park in Canfield. The program will feature a trunk show of handworked items completed by longtime member Ginger Mangle. The guild meets on the third Tuesday of each month. Quilters of all skill levels are welcome. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The group regularly makes items they donate to Hospice of the Valley, Akron Children’s Hospital, Beatitude House, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace.

CEMETERY CLEANUP: The Lake Park Cemetery Association annual spring cleanup will begin on Sunday. Cleanup includes removal of artificial decorations, plants, statues, angels, crosses, flags, ornamental decorations, memorabili, and any nonconformity with the associations’ established rules and regulations.

FRIENDS OF FIDO: A St. Patrick’s Day celebration will take place 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Hackett’s Pub, 1597 Mahoning Ave., that will double as a fundraiser for Friends of Fido, a volunteer organization that assists the Mahoning County Dog Pound. A specialty drink, The Gritty, will be featured in honor of Gritty, a dog adopted from the pound. When the drink is purchased, $1 of the sale will go to Friends of Fido. SOCIETY WELCOMES DAVID: The World War II Heritage Society will welcome Kenneth David of Girard on March 16, to speak about his experiences in Vietnam. After David graduated from Girard High School, he was inducted into the Army in August of 1969. Shipped to the Republic of South Vietnam in January of 1970, he served as a radio-telephone operator with the 101st Airborne, 1/506th Infantry Regiment.

CLEANUP AT CEMETERY: Tod Homestead Cemetery on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown has set its annual cleanup on March 16. LIBRARY PROGRAM: The Girard Free Library will host the Cozy Crafters at 6 p.m. today. Those who attend can knit, crochet and embroider and will be able to share tips with one another as they work on current projects.

WALK WITH A DOC: Youngstown State University’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continues its commitment to public health through the Walk with a Doc program, a free community wellness initiative at the Southern Park Mall.

This month, the program takes place 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday and the topic is balance. The walk is led by YSU physical therapy faculty and students. Each session begins with a brief health talk before participants join in a walk around the mall. The events are designed to promote fitness, wellness and preventive care in a fun and social environment.

Walk with a Doc is part of an international nonprofit founded in 2005 to encourage healthier lifestyles through movement and conversation with medical professionals. The walks are free and open to the public. All ages and fitness levels are welcome, and no registration is required.

COIN CLUB TO MEET: The Wheatland Mercer County Coin Club will have a special monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Wheatland Community Center (formerly called the Wheatland Borough Building).

The address is 71 Broadway Ave. in the Wheatland neighborhood of Hermitage. This month is a potluck picnic and the club will provide the meat, buns and beverages. Members are requested to bring a side dish.

Monthly meetings include a special raffle, main raffle, coin auction, door prizes, birthday prizes and much more.

Every member will be awarded one free coin and may participate in the raffles. More information is available on the club’s website.

ALZHEIMER SUPPORT: Alzheimer Network support group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hermitage Municipal Building, 800 N. Hermitage Road. Due to winter weather, dangerous road conditions and a recently announced flu variant, the group is initiating a “call-in reservation policy” for those who wish to attend one of the regularly announced support groups. A support group meeting will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center, 855 Howland Wilson Road.
