Summer youth program opens
The Seeing Eye
BOYS / GIRLS CLUB REOPEN PROGRAMS: The Boys and Girls Clubs of Youngstown Blue Doors’ youth summer programming begins today. The Oak Hill site is reopening after being closed for three months because of the coronavirus pandemic. The clubs’ summer camp annually hosts more than 100 children each day.
This year, in order to follow all safety protocols from the CDC, state and local government officials and the Youngstown Health District, the club is hosting two program sessions per day and will serve 36 children and teens total each session, with a ratio of nine children to one staff member.
Summer programs run Monday through Friday until Aug. 15. Club members and staff will have their temperatures checked daily upon arrival, be provided masks and will practice social distancingthroughout each program area. A collection of virtual offerings that can be used to experience the club without walls launches July 1, and is open and free to all youth.
For registration information, call 330-782-2714, Ext.101.
TEEN AMBASSADOR BOARD: Ohio Attorney General David Yost’s office is accepting applications from Ohio high school students to its Teen Ambassador Board. The board consists of high school juniors and seniors from public, private, charter and online schools in Ohio. The mission of the program is to provide Ohio’s future leaders with an inside look at state law and government.
The ambassador board can help them hone in their leadership talents as they provide for possible careers in public service. Board members advise the office on teen issues and how to develop solutions for young people. They serve a one-year term during which they travel twice to Columbus and participate in activities across the state.
High school students who will be juniors and seniors during the 2020-21 year can apply until June 26 at the Ohio Attorney General’s website at www.ohioattorneygeneral.gov.
