McDowell leading in Youngstown mayoral race
YOUNGSTOWN — Political newcomer Derrick McDowell has all but defeated two-term incumbent Jamael Tito Brown in the Youngstown mayoral race.
McDowell, running as an independent, leads Brown 4,345 to 3,400 (56% to 45%) with an estimated 92 percent of the votes counted Tuesday night.
Brown, a Democrat, was seeking to become just the second Youngstown mayor to serve three terms. Patrick Ungaro was the first.
