Block Party brings music, laughter to B&O Station

The Neighborhood Events will bring laughter as well as music to this year’s The Block Party. A comedy stage joins the music stage that’s been part of the event since it started in 2018. Brier Hill Italian Fest turns 33

Staff report It’s the third Italian festival in the Mahoning Valley in as many weeks as the Brier Hill Italian Fest starts today. It’s the 33rd year for the neighborhood Italian festival that takes place on Victoria and Calvin streets in Youngstown, where it was started by Dee Dee Modarelli. Food vendors offer Italian favorites, including Brier Hill pizza, pasta, braciole and sausage-stuffed hot peppers. Free tour will explore African American legacy

Registration is open for a free tour on Sept. 6 that will look at the important role African Americans played in the foundation, settlement and development of Youngstown. During the tour, historian Vince Shivers will share his extensive research, and special guests include historian Sean Posey, genealogist Stacey Adger and Civil War reenactor Steffon Jones. Two guest artists will join the W.D. Packard Concert Band for its final outdoor concert of the summer season. Guest conductor will be Bruce Moss, who retired in 2024 after 30 years as director of band activities at Bowling Green State University. Trumbull Art Gallery is seeking entries for its 59th TAG/RAA Annual. The juried art exhibition is a collaboration between the gallery and the Sharon, Pa.-based Random Acts of Artists. It is open to artists living within a 125-mile radius of Trumbull County. Works in any medium will be considered. Canfield Fair concerts get opening acts

Ashley Cooke and Dillon Carmichael have been booked as the opening acts for the two Grandstand concerts at this year’s Canfield Fair. Cooke will open for Brad Paisley on Aug. 31 and Carmichael will open for Lynyrd Skynyrd for the fair’s Labor Day finale Sept. 1.
