Butler announces Area Artists Annual winners
An artist from Hubbard won best in show honors for the 83rd Area Artists Annual exhibition at the Butler Institute of American Art.
Juror Diane Schaffstein, gallery director and head appraiser of the Bonfoey Gallery in Cleveland, selected “You,” a large pen-and-ink work by Josh Ryhal, for the top prize in the exhibit.
The exhibit is an all-media show and is open to artists in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Lawrence and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania.
Other award winners are: Thomas Harwood, Niles, first place; Guy Shively, Austintown, second place; Allan Charles Orr, Youngstown, third place; Diane Beatty, Campbell, the Robert Yalch Memorial Award; Jody Nudell, the Fred Staloff Award; and Gary Balog, the Rich Shale Award.
Eight artists received honorable mention recognition: John Burkard, Michael A. Cantelmo, Robett Demechko, John Fire, Ron Krygowski, Renee Sheakoski, Ashlee Skeels and Ellie Steines.
Winners were announced at Sunday’s opening reception. The exhibition will be on display through Nov. 13 at the Butler, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown.
