Man stabbed at store, large crowd dispersed over weekend

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police responded to a stabbing Saturday, unruly crowds early Sunday at two businesses, and responded to a house on the North Side for gunfire hitting the front of a house containing multiple residents.

STABBING

A man was found in a South Avenue store with a stab wound to the abdomen after a 10:14 a.m. Saturday 911 call, a Youngstown police report states.

The address and name of the store were blacked out in the report, apparently as a result of Marsy’s Law, a law that protects the identity of victims of crime.

The report states that officers were called to the store for a stabbing and found the victim in the store. Ambulance personnel came to the scene to treat the wound. Then the victim (his age was not provided) was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital while an investigation was carried out.

SOUTH AVENUE CROWD

At 2:25 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to King’s Court, 3229 South Ave., for an “extremely large crowd,” causing the bar to be “way overcrowded,” a police report states.

People were partying in the parking lot and there were many illegally parked cars near the club. There was loud music and backed up traffic at South and Lucius avenues. The report does not indicate what officers did at the bar, but when officers left, they moved to an unlicensed club on Logan Avenue near Hubbard Road on the East Side, where a police report stated that they had to deal with “the exact same issues.”

The report stated that “After finally clearing out the lots and illegally parked cars, officers (left) the scene with no further incident.”

UNLICENSED CLUB

At 3:16 a.m. Sunday, police officers went to a building on Logan Avenue near Hubbard Road on the Northeast Side because of a large number of people entering what the report called an “establishment” that has no liquor license.

Officers entered the “bar area” and saw “patrons holding plastic cups with liquor inside and also multiple bottles of liquor on and below the bar itself,” which violates a Youngstown liquor ordinance, the report states.

Multiple people behind the bar stated that this was a private party, and most people brought their own alcohol.

A bartender identified as D’Jacqueline Dunne, 34, appeared to be “operating” the facility. She was cited for violating a “private clubs” law, a second-degree misdemeanor, in Youngstown Municipal Court and was arraigned Monday. She pleaded not guilty and will return for another hearing at 10 a.m. June 16, according to court records.

A man identified as the owner, Robert Taylor, 65, also was charged with the private clubs offense and was arraigned Monday and pleaded not guilty. He also returns for a second hearing at 10 a.m. June 16.

The police department made everyone leave the building and assisted the large amount of traffic in leaving the area.

GUNFIRE ON

ZENTS AVENUE

Not far away from the incident on Logan Avenue, a house on Zents Avenue on the Northeast Side was hit with two to three bullets at 11:53 p.m. Sunday.

Residents of the home reported that several people were inside when they heard the gunshots. One of the occupants saw a black or dark colored small vehicle speed down the road toward Wick Avenue and then turn left onto Wick Avenue. It had no headlights or taillights on, the report states.

The shots hit the front of the house, leaving holes inside the walls of the living room. One bullet hit a couch in the living room. A resident pried the bullet out with a baggie, the report states.
