‘Stomp’ to return to Powers Auditorium on Aug. 20

“Stomp” returns for an 8 p.m. show Aug. 20 at Youngstown’s Powers Auditorium.

Created by Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas, “Stomp” had been playing at New York’s Orpheum Theatre since 1994, and it resumes performances Off-Broadway starting July 20. The percussion-driven production has won numerous awards, including an Olivier Award for best choreography, an Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award for unique theater experience and a special citation from Best Plays.

The HBO special “Stomp Out Loud” won an Emmy Award, and the cast of “Stomp” has performed at the Academy Awards and at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The show has incorporated new material during its long run, and the upcoming tour adds two new pieces.
