Canfield council preps for projects

CANFIELD — City council members approved engineering and project management for several upcoming projects at Wednesday’s council meeting.

Council authorized the city manager to enter an agreement with MS Consultants Inc. at a cost of $35,000 for engineering, design and bidding for the 2026 street paving project. Streets scheduled to be paved this year include Callahan Road, Winona Avenue and Verdant Lane. Alternative streets are Montridge Drive and Gennaro Place.

Council also approved MS Consultants Inc. to serve as manager of the C.H. Campbell water service improvement project aimed at replacing the aging waterlines leading to the elementary school at a cost of $35,000. The amount will cover services associated with construction, inspection and administration.

Council also approved the new waterline for Fairground Boulevard.

“It covers the city’s section of Fairground,” said City Manager David D’Apolito. “We will replace the water main that has experienced numerous breaks.”

MS Consultants Inc. also was approved for the engineering services related to that project at a cost of $56,147.

D’Apolito also gave an update on the Glenview Road culvert project.

“We have a gas line that needs to be moved,” D’Apolito said. “Once that is done, the area can be measured and the culvert made. The culvert will take between 8 and 12 weeks to make. This is a major project.”

In other business, council approved declaring an old city truck and 100 chairs as surplus so they can be put on the city’s website for auction. The truck is a 2016 F-350 with a dump bed, and the chairs are from the Fair Park pavilion. The chairs were replaced through the efforts of City Councilman Anthony Nacarato and the Canfield Rotary Club.

D’Apolito also gave an update on the water meters.

“We are getting close to finishing up the replacement of the old water meters,” he said. “We have a small number of meters left to do, then we can start monthly water billing.”
