Lit Youngstown offers workshops

Lit Youngstown will offer summer workshops via Zoom in playwriting and and writing an effective graduate school application.

Writing a Strong Humanities Graduate School Application will focus on learning to craft effective personal statements and other documents for applying to graduate school. The class will be taught by Laura Beadling, who earned her doctorate in American Studies from Purdue University and has taught at Youngstown State University in the English department since 2013.

It will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $15, and the registration deadline is Friday.

The Power of Ten playwriting workshop will lead participants in writing a 10-minute play. It will be taught by Kelly Bancroft, whose plays have been produced in Youngstown, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee and Cleveland and adapted into a short film that played at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

The class will meet from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays from July 8 to July 29. The cost is $25, and the registration deadline is July 6.

Registration for the workshops is available at Lit Youngstown.org.
