Trained volunteer facilitators lead effective mutual support group discussions from noon to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and 7 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday on topics such as building and maintaining motivation; coping with urges and cravings; managing thoughts, feelings and behaviors; and living a balanced life.

DISPOSAL BAGS AT LIBRARIES: Mahoning County Public Health, in partnership with the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, distributed Deterra Drug Disposal Bags at various library locations. A limited supply will be available at each library location and one bag will be permitted per family. Safely deactivate and dispose of unneeded pills, patches, liquids, creams and films at home. Unneeded medications also can be disposed of at permanent drop-off locations that can be found in the lobbies at various local law enforcement agencies and pharmacies.

SUPPORT GROUP MEETINGS: The Alzheimer’s Association Greater East Ohio Area Chapter makes Alzheimer’s caregiver support groups available for free to all caregivers, family members and friends with a loved one affected by the disease or another form of dementia.

BASKET STROLL: The Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance is hosting “The Basket Stroll” 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 14 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland. All proceeds will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank and Butterflies and Hope Memorial Foundation.

The event features an extensive basket raffle, live entertainment by One Cello and numerous local vendors. A cash bar will be available.

NATURAL WELLNESS: Dannielle MacDuff, BDNC, DEM with Mussler Chiropractic and Wellness, is kicking off the Natural Wellness Unveiled series this spring at the Salem Public Library. MacDuff specializes in holistic care covering mind, body, and spirit by supporting physical, mental and emotional healing. Nutrition and herbology are tools used in her practice.

While some treatments used are centuries old, practitioners generally combine today’s science with those traditional treatments. Naturopathy was brought to the United States from Germany in the 1800s.

The series will begin at 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the Quaker Room at the Salem Public Library.

QUICKMED SCHOLARSHIP: QUICKmed Urgent Care will offer three $1,000 scholarships to exceptional students pursuing careers in practical nursing or surgical technology at Choffin Career and Technical Center enrolled in adult education programs.

All applicants must return their application to the Financial Aid Office along with current grades, proof of enrollment and documentation of financial need. MAHONING COUNTY HEALTH: Mahoning County Public Health and the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board are announcing a new Opioid Epidemic Outreach Dashboard (https://opioid-epidemic-outreach-mc-boh.hub.arcgis.com), a one-stop shop for all things related to the opioid epidemic in Mahoning County.

The dashboard includes overdose fatality data from 2007-present, broken down by age, gender, race, overdoses by month, and primary substance type. This data can be viewed by year or in total.

The dashboard also includes data on Emergency Department visits for overdoses, Quick Response Team data, infectious disease rates for Hepatitis C and HIV, and naloxone saves and distribution. In addition to including data on overdoses in Mahoning County, the dashboard also provides Mahoning County resources and education for prevention, treatment and recovery, and harm reduction. The dashboard is designed to assist local organizations with up-to-date data to inform prevention efforts as well as to help those who have substance use disorder or know someone who has a substance use disorder find assistance in one place.
