Honorable mention for YSU student in international contest

Youngstown State University student Jacob Norton recently earned an honorable mention in the International Trombone Association’s Alto Trombone Competition, placing him among some of the most accomplished young trombonists in the world. Norton, a third‑year trombone performance major in the Dana School of Music, was part of an international division with musicians 25 and under. PURIM CARNIVAL: The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will hold a Purim Carnival from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at 505 Gypsy Lane. TRI-COUNTY HEART BALL: The American Heart Association will host the Tri-County Heart Ball 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield. The gala celebrates all the year-round work done locally to advance health and hope for all. The program will be at 7 p.m. with survivor stories. Stories will be shared including Jacob Burley, a Columbiana County teen saved by CPR, and Michael Kerr, a Trumbull County advocate who traveled to Washington D.C. to push for lifesaving CPR legislation.
