COMMUNITY NEWS: Fun race to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank
FEED THE NEED RUN: On Saturday, Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley invites the community to the inaugural Feed the Need Fun Run, a 0.1-mile charity “race.”
The event will take place at Firestone Farms in Columbiana. The run is a 0.1-mile walk / run where every tiny step helps provide meals for neighbors facing food insecurity across the Mahoning Valley. Participants can jog, walk, dance, skip or power-strut to the finish line.
The family-friendly event will feature free ice cream for participants, keepsake cups, a bounce house and kids activities, music, food trucks and games. Participants are encouraged to embrace the silly spirit of the day.
Registration will take place 10 to 10:45 a.m., followed by the Kids Run (12 and under) at 11 a.m., the Adult Run (over 12) at 11:30 a.m. and an awards ceremony at noon. Activities continue after the race.
Registration is $10 per participant, which includes race entry, a keepsake cup, a free ice cream treat and access to all activities. Participants are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to receive a ticket for a prize drawing. Every can collected helps provide meals for local families in need.
