Cardinals have 9 move on

BELOIT — Canfield placed second at the Division II West Branch Sectional and qualified nine wrestlers for next week’d district tournament. The Cardinals earned 174 points to place second. Nick Barber led the way by earning a 120-pound sectional title. The top four placers in each weight class advanced to next week’s Alliance District tournament.

Others moving on for the Cardinals are Tyler Stricko (106, second), Logan Miller (third, 126), Niko Poullas (fourth, 132), Ian Hull (third, 145), Caden Kohout (third, 152), Noah Frank (third, 160), Jimmy Scharrer (fourth, 220) and Kip Stewart (third, 285).

West Branch was a close third (163.5) and advanced seven wrestlers. Brothers Kenny and Steven Marra paced the Warriors. Steven placed first at 195 pounds, and Kenny was the 220-pound champion.

Tyler Hicks was third at 106, Michael Dorris took third at 113, Alex Courtney finished second at 120, Blake Schmidt was fourth at 152, Hudson Brink took second at 170.

Howland, fifth place, had four wrestlers move on to next week. Rian Spangler (132), Brayden Gibson (220) and Gage Gibson (285) all placed second, while Carter Mock was third at 138.

Poland’s Jacob Caudle placed first at 145 pounds, and Dillon Smith (195) finished third. Salem’s Lane Lafleme was the 160-pound champ, and Caiden Hart won the 170-pound title. Tony Seddon took fourth at 113.

Girard’s Kyle O’Hare took third at 132. Andrew DelGarbino placed fourth at 182. Colton McCloskey was fourth at 138.

Liberty takes fifth

BURTON — Liberty finished fifth as a team and crowned a champion at the Division III Berkshire Sectional on Saturday.

Quintin Burns earned the 106-pound title to lead the Leopards, who earned 91 points to place fifth. Burns was one of three Liberty wrestlers to move. His brother, Connor Burns, placed fourth at 120 pounds, and junior Dominic Leone was second at 113.

Raiders qualify 11

ROOTSTOWN — South Range finished second at the Division III Rootstown Sectional and had 11 wrestlers advance to next week’s district.

Raymond Cmil (120 pounds) and Logan Cormell (170) each picked up championships. The Raiders had five runners-up: Hunter Newell (106), Gavin Pahanish (113), Michael Markulin (126), Jacob Starkey (160) and Christopher Colucci (195). The top four placers in each weight class advanced to next week’s Garfield Heights district tournament.

Also qualifying for South Range was Clayton Kramer (132, third), Cooper Cleavley (145, fourth), Naseem Maali (152, third) and Luke Blasko (182, third). The Raiders scored 220 team points. Rootstown was first with 248.5.

Crestview, which finished fourth, advanced six wrestlers. A.J. Coppersmith was the 138-pound champion. Braeden Stallworth (120), Collin Wonner (145) and Wyatt Babik (285) all placed second. Roclen Bettura (160) was third, and Ty Harrison (152) took fourth.

Western Reserve had three qualifying. Seth Philips earn the 285-pound title. Hayden Garner (132) placed second, and Cameron Hartzell finished fourth.

Clippers advance five

WEST SALEM — Columbiana took fifth at the Division III Northwestern Sectional and qualified five wrestlers to the district.

The top four placers in each weight class advanced to next week’s Garfield Heights district tournament. Chandler Parish placed second at 152 pounds for the Clippers, who earned 109 points. Waynedale was first with 238.5.

Others who advanced for Columbiana were: Cameron Sloan (132, fourth), Daniel Vivo (138, fourth), Cutter Green (145, third) and Creed Green (160, fourth).

Jackson-Milton had two wrestlers move on in Owen McDevitt (106) and Austin Stanke (126), both of whom took third place.
