Canfield rallies after delay, comes back to defeat St. Vincent-St. Mary, 14-6

¯ CANFIELD 14, ST. VINCENT-ST. MARY 6: CANFIELD — The Cardinals rallied from a 6-0 deficit to sink the Irish in this Division III, Region 9 quarterfinal.

The Cardinals (8-0) travels to Streetsboro (8-0) for a semifinal matchup at Streetsboro next Friday at 7 p.m. Streetsboro beat Dover, 54-21.

Luke Dobson had field goals from 21 and 39 yards before a lightning delay pushed Friday’s game to Saturday night.

Canfield didn’t have any rushing yards before the delay, but ended up outgaining the Irish (5-3) 130 to 59. SV-SM had about half of its rushing yards before the break.

Broc Lowry paced Canfield with 20 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown. He was 9-of-16 for 111 yards and a touchdown.

Canfield took a 7-6 lead with 18 seconds left before halftime on a Luke Rubin 3-yard TD reception from Lowry.

Lowry’s 2-yard TD run with 5:40 left sealed the win.

It was also a highly-penalized game. SV-SM had nine penalties for 115 yards, while Canfield had 10 for 91 yards.

Late Friday

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 46, LOWELLVILLE 29: LOWELLVILLE — It was air against ground as the Lowellville air raid met Western Reserve’s rushing game. The Blue Devils were able to get the edge in a big win over the Rockets.

The duo of David Altiere and Russ Adair combined for six touchdowns, with Altiere scoring four, including a 50-yard run in the second quarter.

The Blue Devils finished the game with 338 yards on the ground. Lowellville quarterback Vinny Ballone had 226 yards and three passing touchdowns, all to Cole Bunofsky.

The Rockets travel to East Palestine to take on the Bulldogs next week.

¯ UNITED 62, EAST PALESTINE 7: HANOVERTON — Golden Eagles quarterback Brutus Ogilvie threw for 351 yards and six touchdowns in a huge win over East Palestine.

Tyler Bistarkey led the Bulldogs with 139 yards on the ground. Jesse Lipp had 85.

East Palestine closes out their season against Lowellville next week.
