Fitch defeats East; Poland, Struthers win

¯ AUSTINTOWN FITCH 72, EAST 66: AUSTINTOWN — The Falcons made the most of their 36 free throw attempts to get the win over East.

Todd Simons scored 22 points with nine of them coming from the free throw line. Devin Chaney scored 17 and Kris Brown added 15.

Ramere Bledsoe led East with 17 points and Reuben Talley added 16.

¯ POLAND 61, JEFFERSON 42: JEFFERSON — Andrew Centofanti led the Bulldogs to their ninth league win over Jefferson.

Centofanti scored 12 points for Poland with Adam Kassem following behind with 11.

The Bulldogs outrebounded Jefferson 33-18 with Kassem bringing down seven.

Poland sits at 12-6 overall and 9-3 in the Northeast-8.

¯ STRUTHERS 78, PERRY 58: STRUTHERS — The Wildcats got off to a hot start, outscoring Perry 27-9 in the first quarter, to power their way to a win.

Trey Metzka led the team with 23 points. Aidan Slocum scored 16, Carson Ryan had 13 and Brandon Washington added 10.

Metzka scored nine of his 23 points off of 3-pointers.

¯ BEAVER LOCAL 91, EAST PALESTINE 51: LISBON — Johnathan Bertovitch scored 32 points for the Bulldogs but it couldn’t pull them past Beaver Local.

East Palestine went into the second quarter down by five, but the Beavers outscored them 47-22 over the next two quarters to pull away.

Chetock scored 28 points for Beaver Local.

¯ CRESTVIEW 55, WELLSVILLE 49: WELLSVILLE — Drake Golden scored 21 points for the Rebels in a nailbiting win over Wellsville.

Crestview scored 22 points in the final quarter to push back and take the lead over the Tigers.

Golden led the Rebebls with 21 points. Anthony Cusick scored 11 and Jack Yerkey added 10.

Suggs scored a game-high for Wellsville with 22.

Girls

¯ WEST BRANCH 57, FITCH 29: BELOIT — The host Warriors limited the Falcons to a combined 9 points in the middle quarters of a non-league affair.

West Branch pushed a 19-12 lead entering the second period into a 35-17 halftime cushion and cruised from there to improve to 18-2.Peyton Alazaus scored 14 points, Carly Scarpitti scored 11 and Maddie Showalter contributed 10 points.

Fitch, which dipped to 8-12, got 11 points from Mya McNevin.

¯ EAST 43, VALLEY CHRISTIAN 41: YOUNGSTOWN — Joeille Reynolds and Brianna Thompson scored 21 points for the Golden Bears, who outlasted the Eagles in a non-league game. Reynolds scored 11 points and Thompson added 20 to help offset a 20-point effort from Valley Christian’s Kristen Gill.

Donovan Gillson grabbed eight rebounds and Delena Brown had five assists for the Golden Bears, who moved to 13-7.

Gill finished with seven rebounds and four assists for the Eagles.

¯ WARREN G. HARDING 68, BOARDMAN 34: BOARDMAN — The Raiders continue their dominant season with a big win over Boardman to move to 8-0 in the All-American Conference Red Tier.

Kamarah Bender led the Raiders with 14 points. Both Diamond Phillips and Faith Burch scored 12 points. Alasha Williams added 10 points.

Burch had another double-double bringing down 11 rebounds.

Harding moves to 19-2 on the year.

¯ CARDINAL MOONEY 67, CANTON CENTRAL CATHOLIC 26: CANTON — Catie Perry had a 25-point game for the Cardinals to power them past Canton Central Catholic.

Alaina Scavina scored 12 points for Mooney, Katie Hough scored 11 and Maria Fire added nine.

Mooney held the Crusaders to single-figures in each of the four quarters. The Cardinals scored 20 points in the third quarter.

¯ NEW PHILADELPHIA 50, STRUTHERS 32: STRUTHERS — Emma Elia had a game-high 17 points but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats fall to New Philadelphia.

Struthers trailed by seven after the first quarter and New Philadelphia continued to pile on the points.

Chloe Neider added six points for the Wildcats.

¯ NEWTON FALLS 51, CAMPBELL 37: CAMPBELL — The visiting Tigers blitzed the Red Devils 17-3 in the first quarter of the AAC, Blue Tier tussel.

Bree Hutson and Madison Haidet combined for 33 points for Newton Falls, which moved to 13-8 overall and finished 7-5 in the conference. Hutson had 21 points and Haidet added 12.

The Red Devils used an 18-10 second-quarter scoring push to trail 28-21 at halftime and they were behind 39-31 entering the fourth quarter. India Armour-Clark led with 11 points and Cayla Marshall scored 10, as Campbell slipped to 3-17 and 0-12.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 51, LISBON 38: LISBON — Three Blue Jays reached the double-figure mark as Jackson-Milton picks up the win.

Grace McDevitt led the Blue Jays with 16 points. Courtney Mercer scored 13 and Abby Spalding had 12.

McDevitt brought down eight rebounds and Spalding brought down seven.

Mercer scored nine of her 13 points from behind the arc.
