Lowellville rolls through Lordstown 14-2

STRUTHERS — Lordstown and Lowellville played at Cene Park on Tuesday as the regular season wraps up.

The Red Devils scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. However, Tyler Tuscano settled things down on the mound, and the Lowellville bats were red hot, as the Rockets prevailed 14-2.

“I was proud of what we did at the plate,” Lowellville coach Dan Dougherty said. “Eleven hits is encouraging. We’ve been up and down all year. To be able to string together some clutch hits, a week before the tournament, is good for us.”

The Rockets scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. They added three runs in the second, and Liam Bartlett and Tuscano came around to score in the third inning to make it 7-2.

Zak Sargent and Ryan Neider drove in runs in the bottom of the fourth. Anthony Kacir scored, along with six other Rockets, as the Lowellville offense kept rolling.

“We hit the ball well,” Neider said. “We have a little bit of work to do in the field as the tournament approaches. But, I think we have a chance to make a run in the playoffs. I want to go as far as we possibly can.”

The Rockets still have two more regular season games left, against Western Reserve today and against Mathews on Thursday, before traveling to Lisbon to face the Blue Devils in the first round of the postseason next Tuesday.

“Let’s beat Reserve,” Dougherty said. “We haven’t looked at Lisbon a whole lot yet. We know that they’re a good team. We’ve seen them in the past. But, we feel like we’re playing some of our best baseball right now. So, we’re excited about it.

“Ryan Neider, Tino Rivera-Ocasio and Landon Esenwein are our three seniors. They’ve all been with us for four years. They do things the right way. When the season wasn’t going the way we wanted it to, they kept the group together. We seem to be heading in the right direction.”

Lordstown has finished the regular season, and the Red Devils are heading to East Canton to take on the Hornets in the first round of the tournament next Tuesday.

“We’ve got a tournament game at East Canton next week,” Lordstown senior J.T. Adams said. “My last day of school is Friday. After I graduate, I’m moving to Florida to train to become a police officer.”

East Canton is the same opponent Lordstown faced in the tournament last season.

“We’re going to the same place we were at last year,” Lordstown coach Mitch Blake said. ” We were in that ballgame for about four innings. We’re not very deep. Hopefully, we don’t have to go deep. We’ll be competitive.

“We have five seniors. I love the effort they give me. If we happen to fall short, I’ll miss them. Then, we’ll be starting all over again next year.”
