Boys Basketball Capsules – Jan. 7, 2022

Columbiana 59, Leetonia 16 – The Clippers took a commanding first quarter lead and never looked back Friday night, ousting the Bears handedly. Nick Million scored 13 points while Maddox Brown added 10 for Columbiana.

Poland 63, Girard 53 – Ross Dedo continued his strong season for the Bulldogs, scoring a team-high 21 points to lead Poland to a 10-point victory over the Indians. Christian Colosimo chipped in 15. Thomas Cardiero led Girard with 17 points while Gus Johnson added 16.

Lakeview 43, Niles 33 – The Bulldogs took a 16-9 first half lead and never looked back Friday night as Nate Fox scored 17 points to lead them to victory. Tyler Capan added 10 to the win total.

Struthers 68, Jefferson 57 – Nick DelGratta poured in a team-high 21 points and Dante Lolarossi hit six 3-pointers to score 18 points and lead the Wildcats to an 11-point win. Joey DeGeorge scored a game-high 27 points for Jefferson in the loss.

Campbell 71, Crestview 41 – Kevin Moore scored 19 and Kayvon Moore added 14 to lead the Red Devils to a big 30 point win Friday night. Isaiah McCray chipped in with 10 points while Xavion Leonard tallied 11 in the win. Kirkland Miller and Jack Yerkey scored 12 apiece to lead the Rebels.

Lowellville 56, Sebring 25 – Brady Bunosky scored a game-high 21 points, including going 5-of-7 from the free throw line to lead the Rockets to a big win over Sebring.

West Branch 48, Minerva 39 – Jaxon Hendershott had another big night, scoring 21 points to lead the Warriors to a nine-point victory. Dru DeShields added 12 in the win as well.

Valley Christian 57, Southern 41 – After trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles exploded in the second quarter and never looked back as they cruised to a 16 point win. Rashaun Bell scored a team-high 14 points and Joey Battista added 13. Brady Ketchum scored 16 for Southern.

Hubbard 67, South Range 57 – Riley Heckert hit four 3-pointers and scored 37 points to lead the Eagles to a 10-point win over the Raiders. Landon Moore led South Range with 13 points while Ayden Leon scored 11 and Mark Naples added 10.

Cardinal Mooney 59, East 28 – Mick Hergenrother scored 11 points and Jack Pepperney added 13 in a convincing win over East. Tyron Hudson and Luther Bell led East with 9 points apiece.

Chaney 72, Ursuline 52 – The Cowboys (7-4, 1-1) trailed by eight points after the half, but came charging out in the third quarter, outscoring Ursuline (5-4, 0-1) 45-17 in the second half to cruise to a 20-point win. Josiah Gonzalez led Chaney with 27 points and went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. DaVinci McDowell also scored 17 points for the Cowboys. Vince Flauto scored 17 points to lead Ursuline.

Bristol 77, Badger 41 – Nick Church tallied 21 points to lead the Panthers to a big win on Farmington night as the school celebrated its 1988 merger. Mikey Burbach and Trevor Mendenhall added 14 apiece for the Panthers.

Carrollton 59, Salem 58 (OT) – Drew Weir scored 16 points and Cam Sampson added 13, but it wasn’t enough for the Quakers (2-7, 1-3) as Carrollton (2-8, 1-4) squeezed out a thrilling overtime victory Friday night. Brock Young added 12 points in the loss.
