Vote Summers for state central committee

Letters to the Editor

DEAR EDITOR: I am proud to be writing today in support of Thomas Summers for Democratic State Central Committee for Senate District 32. Summers is the young endorsed Democratic candidate for the post. As we approach the May 5 primary, I ask that you join me in voting to retain him. Summers got involved in politics while still in high school because in 2016, he recognized that our democracy and our Constitution were under threat, and he mobilized and stayed involved. He was an intern at the local Democratic headquarters while he studied political science at Youngstown State ...

Yost, other state AGs seek drug transparency

Editorials

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has joined an important effort by 45 state attorneys general to push the federal government to seek more transparency in prescription-drug transactions through pharmacy benefit managers, and to ensure federal efforts do not preempt state transparency laws. It’s a significant effort because PBMs — the companies that are supposed to represent insurers in drug transactions — have always favored the federal rules and regulations over state laws. According to a report by the Ohio Capital Journal, the three largest PBMs control approximately 80% of ...

Shelley Pratt is best pick for probate judge

Letters to the Editor

DEAR EDITOR: I am writing to express my support for Shelley Pratt for judge in the upcoming Trumbull County Probate Court election. In a time when accountability and public safety should be top priorities in our justice system, I believe Ms. Pratt represents the level of responsibility and fairness our community deserves. One of the key reasons for my support is concern over a recent case handled by her opponent, in which an individual who caused a fatal accident while texting and driving received what many in our community feel was a far too lenient sentence. As an avid motorcycle ...

Letters to the Editor

DEAR EDITOR: Every 40 seconds someone in the U.S. has a stroke. In fact, stroke is the fourth-leading cause of death, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistical Update, and a leading cause of serious, long-term disability in the United States. Unfortunately, a stroke can happen to anyone, at any age. That’s why this May, for American Stroke Month, the American Stroke Association is spotlighting four things you can do to take action against stroke: 1. Learn B.E. F.A.S.T. to spot a stroke. If you see sudden Balance loss, Eye or vision ...

How and why the U.S. Congress went off the rails

Letters to the Editor

DEAR EDITOR: So, you vote for your U.S. congressional representative, and you think they will vote in your best interests? Think again. Newly elected representatives first attend “Freshman Orientation for New Members of Congress.” On the average, each representative stands in for 760,000 Americans in their district. A LOT of people with different opinions on how their rep should be voting. And only a handful of that number actually elected them. After Freshman Orientation, they no longer vote your will; they vote as they’re told to vote by their “party leadership,” both ...

America suffering from a collective religious hangover

Letters to the Editor

DEAR EDITOR: Last weekend another column was printed about Jesus and “His soul-saving deliverance, His unending love, His miraculous power to transform lives,” and calling for us to be more “Christ-like.” Meanwhile, as writer and political observer Mary Geddry puts it, each day as of late seems to “arrive carrying a flamethrower.” Global conflicts erase innocent lives and real estate off the face of the earth not to mention the desecration of the planet itself. Where is the deliverance, the love and the power? While some would like to expunge the need for religion from ...
