Sound off!

Last November, I predicted that by year two of his regime Trump would begin agitating for an illegal third term. That took him less than 100 days. I also opined that, if he got a third term, he would campaign for a dynastic clause changing the Constitution to allow him to name one of his sons as his successor. Last week, Eric responded to a press question about his interest in politics that after looking at politics up close he felt qualified to replace his father, if needed, at the end of his term. Please God make my prognostication completely off the mark. — Canfield Trump, Noem, ...

What democracy? It’s already gone

DEAR EDITOR: It’s hilarious to me that people blame Trump for trying to erode our democracy. Let me inform you — it’s already gone. You see those “Flock” cameras all over Ohio and Pennsylvania? Yes, those were paid for by mostly Democratic-controlled townships and municipalities. And yes, a federal lawsuit against Flock is ongoing. Those same counties, townships and cities have patrol units with unmarked cars with jet-black windows that we would get a ticket for having window tint that dark on our cars. Yes, our local leaders allow police forces to erode our privacy rights ...

Color me safe on the roadways

DEAR EDITOR: A few letters back, I discussed how, with the increase in driving during these Ohio summer days, drivers need to refresh themselves on the roadway laws. I’d like to continue that refresher training concept and share the following: Did you ever wonder why all those roadway signs are different colors? Red, blue, green, white, brown, and yellow! It’s not just to make the roadway a little more appealing or that’s the paint we had; there is a reason behind the sign color. Red: Regulatory. When you see a red sign, this means you are going to or must do something, ...

Peaceful protests are now something else

DEAR EDITOR: What is a riot or a peaceful march? A peaceful march is what MLK did in the 1960s — no burning cars or attacking law enforcement, attacking stores and breaking windows, stealing from people and burning American flags, holding up other countries’ flags and showing no respect for our country. No respect for law and order! Mayors who won’t protect their cities or governors who stand down and blame someone else for not doing their job just to destroy their businesses. One party that wants this to happen all over the country does not love our country. They don’t ...

Answers to a few questions, please

DEAR EDITOR: Are we witnessing deja vu all over again? George W. Bush and his minions’ grand plan to invade Iraq on false pretenses turned into a quagmire that cost our nation immense blood and treasure, unleashed ISIS and other extremists, and brought death and agony to millions. And some in the Bush administration seemed competent at the time. Now we have the blowhard-in-chief, with his clown car of unqualified, mean-spirited boot lickers, spouting nonsense about “unconditional surrender.” We haven’t heard those words since WWII. What will happen when not only Iran, but ...

AI leadership depends on infrastructure

DEAR EDITOR: Ohio stands at a pivotal crossroads in the national artificial intelligence race. As major technology companies invest billions in data center infrastructure across our state, we face a critical strategic question: Will we support the energy infrastructure necessary to power these facilities? The facts are clear. AWS is investing $3.5 billion to add 1.25 million square feet of technical space. Google has committed $1.7 billion across three Ohio campuses. Microsoft secured 200 acres for future development. These investments create jobs and position Ohio as the tech ...
