Public-broadcasting cuts signal dark days

DEAR EDITOR: Our Republican-led Congress, acting on orders from 47, voted to rescind previously allocated funds that supported public media. They at least dropped the facade that this cut had anything to do with limiting spending, as the money saved by the cut amounted to a little less than ½ of 1% of the federal budget. Sen. DEAR EDITOR: Long ago, I signed up for monthly donations to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (NPR and PBS) and seldom regretted it. Although some of its programming is a bit woke for my taste, our nation’s unvarnished history and an alternative take of certain events give us a different perspective to consider as we form our opinions and vote. PBS and NPR are accessible with an inexpensive TV antenna and FM radio for those who don’t have or can’t afford cable TV. DEAR EDITOR: Thank you for your July 22 editorial urging readers to ignore Trump’s attempt to distract them with his disruptive team-naming proposals while his focus belongs elsewhere. It is becoming painfully obvious, even to the 26% of voters who supported ever more outlandish Trump rants, that when Trump speaks it’s only in service to Trump, and will be followed by threats, lies and name calling. House committee is wasting its time

DEAR EDITOR: The House Oversight Committee needs to stop wasting time and money on Joe Biden and look into the mental health and welfare of everyday Americans trying to survive while under attack from our so-called “government.” I suggest the committee do the job its members were elected for: Protecting and providing our right to have a decent future to pass on to the next generation. The editorial by Debra Saunders is an attempt to twist the truth. Yes, there has been unacceptable violence against ICE agents. But it’s not because Democrats are advocating for violence but because Trump is showcasing cruelty to instill fear in people and pretend to be a tough guy. And he is deporting people who have not committed a crime and have been here for decades. Obama legally deported 5 million in eight years without agents being masked or attacked and without public and targeted raids. While Trump only deported 1 million in his four years.
