Take a closer look at Mike DeWine’s vetoes

DEAR EDITOR: On July 2, The Vindicator published an article by David Skolnick titled: “DeWine vetoes 67 budget items.” This extensive article disingenuously alludes to DeWine’s line-item veto of 67 items in the Ohio budget, recently passed by the radical right wing-dominated Legislature. The article sought out and got responses from the local Republican legislators: State Rep. David Thomas (Jefferson), State Rep. Tex (formally known as Austin) Fischer (Boardman); State Sen. DEAR EDITOR: Your July 9 article describing the refusal of entry to the U.S. of a musician to perform here locally raised several disturbing questions. Of course, there is a disparity of the organizer claiming the musician “carried documentation proving the non-commercial nature of his performances” and the Border Patrol claiming the performer “did not have the appropriate employment-based visa to perform multiple events as a professional musician.” It doesn’t matter which documentation claim is the most accurate or the most applicable under the law. DEAR EDITOR: There has been a great deal of news regarding independent candidates in Youngstown this year, and a lot of drama to go with it. While the mayoral race has everyone’s attention, another race has been forgotten about. DEAR EDITOR: The Vindicator has done a great service to its readers in the Mahoning Valley by publishing the Declaration of Independence on this July 4. The Vindicator brings to light the very foundation, the bedrock of our existence as a nation. Reviewing this document and particularly the 27 points (facts) established by the founders is so profoundly eye-opening. Bill Johnson’s fraudulent, odious YSU reign continues

DEAR EDITOR: In 2023 I wrote a letter questioning Bill Johnson’s fitness to be YSU’s president considering his support for the Jan. 6 insurrection, climate change denial, opposition to gay rights and celebration of immigration bans. He became YSU’s president. Trustee Michael Peterson stated, “Congressman Johnson is a strong, innovative, servant leader who we believe will be well positioned to guide the university as we take charge of our future.” How has Johnson fared?
