New program can build better future for seniors

DEAR EDITOR: With nearly 20% of Ohioans aged 65 and older, our state is facing a growing senior care crisis. Most older adults want to remain in their homes as they age but have limited options to do so. Thankfully, a new senior care program is coming to Northeast Ohio — and not a moment too soon. PACE provides medical and social services, both in a day center and in the home, that help older adults safely maintain independence in their homes and communities. By delivering high-quality and cost-effective care, PACE has shown strong results in reducing hospital and nursing home ...

When does a human life really begin?

DEAR EDITOR: Let’s just say you are pro-life and life begins at conception and your mother carries you full term — nine months. Do you believe you can apply for and collect Social Security benefits nine months before your 62nd birthday? Do you believe in the separation of church and state? DAVID P. GAIBIS SR. Edinburg, Pa.

Yes, we absolutely should eliminate property taxes

DEAR EDITOR: About one month ago there was an editorial on the attempt to place a constitutional amendment eliminating property taxes. It was unsettling to read that the editorial was opposed to this effort. The Ohio State Supreme Court had ruled over a decade ago that property taxes were not to fund Ohio public schools. As per usual, rulings by the court that our government doesn’t agree with are just ignored. Ohio is also in the top 10 of the states with the highest property taxes. Neighbors should worry about their own lawns

DEAR EDITOR: I am sick and tired of the neighbors complaining about lawn grass standard requirements. We are living in a time where weather is extremely unpredictable. Combine that with a full-time job schedule. Perhaps neighbor Joe Smith can’t mow his lawn until Saturday. Ease up, neighbors!!!! Relax!!! Stop whining about the lawn that isn’t yours!!! Give your neighbor a break! JENISE BORRASSO Girard

Sound off!

In the July 21 paper, there was a “protest” decrying that President Trump is taking away our Constitutional rights one by one. It appears the people in the photo forgot the imperial and tyrannical presidency of Joe Biden. What rights has Trump tried to take away? What started under Trump with the closing of the economy was taken far further under Biden. They don’t remember the draconian measures forced on us by this tyrant. The economy, churches and schools were closed. People were separated from family members. Riots were permitted by Democrats. These “well meaning” citizens ...

A day of fun at Wick Recreation Area

DEAR EDITOR: With all of the negative publicity Mill Creek MetroParks sometimes receives, I wanted to share a recent uplifting experience. My 7-year-old granddaughter was visiting from California, and I had the chance to spend a morning with her. I decided to take her to the splash park at the Wick Recreation Area on the West Side. When we arrived, a day camp was already there enjoying the facility. Children of all backgrounds were laughing, playing and making the most of the water features. It was a beautiful reminder of how public spaces can bring people together for simple, ...
