Make our city appear welcoming

DEAR EDITOR: While there are conflicting opinions and ideas on how to revitalize our downtown area, the goal is the same. We want to see businesses return. We want to see growth. We want people to visit, to seek entertainment and to dine. And most of all, to spread the word about their experiences. I see a great deal of potential in our new mayor. I feel he has his finger on the pulse of our city, and he wants to see that revitalization. But there are issues that often seem to be overlooked. My job allows me to travel through our city, calling on customers to provide them with ...

Sound off!

The death of the young woman in Minneapolis was tragic. She leaves a child behind. But all the SoundOff writers forget one thing. Blocking a public road is illegal. Interfering in law enforcement activities is illegal. Driving your car at any person is illegal. This wasn’t peaceful protesting. Peaceful protesting is standing on the sidewalk and yelling all you want. This woman should have been home with her child, not interfering with ICE agents. — Hubbard Once again Donny’s mouth belies reality. He claims nobody deserves the Nobel Peace Prize more than him. What is ...

Kimberly-Clark decision was certainly no accident

DEAR EDITOR: We are so pleased and excited that Kimberly-Clark has chosen to heavily invest in our area to develop a huge manufacturing and distribution center here for its products. But one thing I have not seen in our local media is anything about what Kimberly-Clark plans to manufacture at this new facility. If we go back to COVID, the health care industry was at the mercy of China because virtually all of the health care sterile and nonsterile synthetic fabric-based disposable products (masks, gowns, etc.) all came from China. Hospitals, like the one I worked in, just could not ...

Just wondering: Some questions deserve answers

DEAR EDITOR: Several months ago, 600 Honduran children from very young to teens were to be deported and flown back after midnight to Honduras, their future in doubt on arrival, separated from their families. A judge’s order temporarily intervened and stopped it. Where are their parents and where are these children now? Reunited? I don’t think so. Deported sneakily? Likely. They have been forgotten. After all, to this administration they are simply unimportant … and the wrong color. Will anyone ever really inspect or try to find out if these “boaters” were really big time ...

Why do so many refuse to question authority?

DEAR EDITOR: Here’s what the shooting by ICE in Minnesota comes down to. There is a substantial minority of this country who blindly follow whatever an “authority” figure tells them. Millions of Americans would actually be more comfortable in North Korea, where they’d have to do no thinking at all, no matter what their eyes and ears tell them. So, if their pastor or priest is a sexual abuser of children, it doesn’t matter, they’re in charge and must be followed. Same with their corrupt president or drunken father (head of the household, don’t you know). These sheep ...

Your vote has never been more important

DEAR EDITOR: Now that we have state-sanctioned murder of citizens by the Trump administration via Homeland Security and ICE, what is next? Trump, cowgirl Noem, the murdering ICE agent and the presence of thousands of ICE agents in Minnesota, represent provocation and chaos and perhaps another more sinister plan. For some time now Trump has been threatening to cancel elections in 2026, most recently admitting if Democrats win control in Congress he would be impeached. Let us remember he loved knowing that because Ukraine is at war, elections in Ukraine have been suspended which ...
