Trump’s way is not making America great

DEAR EDITOR: “Make America Great Again” was Donald Trump’s promise to his loyalists in his campaign to rule these United States. The question then, as now, is “Great for Whom”? After one year in office, the answer to that question is evident. That promise was being made to white, American-born citizens who disliked the government’s acceptance of and assistance to anyone who was not like them. GOP changes its tune on guns, profanity

DEAR EDITOR: So Republicans are actually saying not to carry guns after refusing common-sense gun control for years? They also blame protesters in Minnesota because they confront law enforcement personnel, use violence and profanities and hinder proceedings? Sounds like what I saw at the U.S. Capitol not long ago. Release of men from jail was appalling

DEAR EDITOR: On Thursday, Feb. 12, I addressed the Mahoning County Commissioners about unlawful actions taken at the Mahoning County jail on Feb. 3, on behalf of ICE. At 8:30 a.m. that day, the Sheriff’s Office illegally released two men from Framingham, Massachusetts, from ICE custody into the single-digit temperatures without weather-appropriate clothing, without funds and without any contacts in the area, when the court order very specifically stated that the men were to be returned to Massachusetts where they have pending court cases. Disruptive door holding must now be destroyed

DEAR EDITOR: It is clear that many people frequently forget we do indeed live in a society and are not in a situation where our own carelessness is only disruptive to ourselves. A prime example of such disruption is easily observable in the regression of door holding in this country. Such a menial task should not be in need of re-examination, and yet here we are.
