Here’s a lesson on grocery stores
DEAR EDITOR:
To the city officials of Girard, I have a suggestion regarding the article about grocery stores competing with dollar stores.
Instead of creating a supermarket, take a lesson from Dollar General, go into neighborhoods and research the economy and the lifestyle of the families, then create a grocery store to fit the market.
Get rid of all the high-priced extras and automation. Go back to in-the-store shopping. Go back to selling groceries and household products. Have fresh meat and produce at reasonable prices.
Keep a low overhead and establish a safe place where families can shop week after week, month after month, and you’ll be successful, exceeding the competition.
Also, hire local people to work in the stores. This also helps the economy.
