At the March 27 Austintown trustees meeting, Trustee Robert Santos declared he talked to all our local legislators about an issue. I would like him to learn that Mrs. Lauren McNally is an elected member of the Ohio House of Representatives who is not afraid to try to get things done. He needs to contact her as well. Due to gerrymandering, she is no longer Austintown’s representative, but she will sure try to help Austintown anytime.

Dogs should not go free after ripping a woman’s clothes off and causing severe injuries to her. Police department policy needs to change. I do not believe if I tore a woman’s clothing off and beat her with severe injuries that I would be let go. A dog should not be free after that attack to potentially hurt someone else. The dogs should have been detained and quarantined to be euthanized in 10 days.

Whatever happened to “them’s the rules” and “rules are rules” and “they’re the same for everyone”? Except they aren’t when it comes to today’s culture of doing whatever one wants. Lying and cheating are alive and well. From politicians to parents to everyday persons, honesty and integrity are losing the battle. We are very poor role models for future generations, and then where will we be as a lawless nation with no accountability for unacceptable actions?

Action is needed to eliminate school shootings — absolutely no one disagrees! Banning guns is too controversial. Given this reality, what can be done? Non-controversial actions are abundant. Increase consequences for not enforcing existing laws. Recall crack addict Hunter Biden passed a background check. Vegas casinos and D.C. buildings are better protected than most schools. Know-how and technology is available to fortify schools. Perimeter fencing with surveillance, bullet proof and locked doors and on-site police. Use money our federal government wastes.

At age 14, I started paying Social Security. Career politicians now incorporate Social Security as an “entitlement” and are considering dissecting it. I believe some benefits paid out aren’t part of the original plan; however, the basic foundation should never be touched. Washington keeps spending even after running out of money. Now, to pay off that debt, let’s attack Social Security? Does a balanced budget ring a bell? Does incompetent, unqualified and misfeasance apply to elected officials or voters?

Fans of the old “Seinfeld” skits involving the “Soup Nazi” will recognize the same behavior in the Tennessee state Legislature. Don’t get out of line, don’t ask for any change, don’t question the autocratic demands of the soup seller or you will be banned. The difference is the vote of the people is being overturned, kids are being slaughtered, and democracy is being trampled to maintain the lockstep order of a fascist minority.

Jill Biden’s wish to have NCAA women’s basketball runner-up Iowa invited to the White House following their loss to Louisiana State isn’t a surprise. Besides having a traditional ceremony for the 2022-23 season’s national collegiate champion, LSU, an unprecedented invite for Iowa by the first lady would be a fitting show of sympathy for a loser — just like her husband.
