COLUMBIANA — Mary H. Merlino, a devoted homemaker and loving mother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 25 2026, at the age of 94.

Mary was born Feb. 4, 1931, in New Castle, Pa., the daughter of the late Angelo Ferrare Sr. and Josephine Chill Ferrare.

Mary was a proud graduate of New Castle High School, Class of 1949.

Throughout her life, Mary exemplified kindness and caring, traits that endeared her to many. As a member of St. Vitus Church, she embraced her faith and contributed to her community. She was an active member of the St. Vitus Ladies Guild and involved with the Red Hat Society.

She enjoyed bowling, gardening, shopping, line dancing and spending time outside.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Guy A. Merlino, whom she married Oct. 25, 1958, and who died March 7, 1976. She was also preceded by her parents, Angelo and Josephine Chill Ferrare; and her brothers, Benjamin, Samuel, Henry and Angelo Ferrare.

Mary’s proudest accomplishments were her beloved children and grandchildren, who brought her profound joy. After Mary’s husband Guy passed away in 1976, she raised her two children and encouraged them to both pursue their college education. She was very proud of both Frank and Gina’s accomplishments.

She is survived by her son, Frank and his wife, Christine Carlini Merlino; and Mary’s daughter, Gina and her husband, Robert Severino.
