Albert G. Checcone 1932-2025

Born Oct. 28, 1932, in Midland, Pa., Albert was the son of Emidio and Angela Ciccone. He earned a pharmacy degree from Duquesne University and served as a pharmacist in the U.S. Navy. He later co-owned Westgate Pharmacy in Austintown with his brother.

In his thirties, Albert pursued a second career in medicine. He earned his medical degree from Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery, and completed a radiology residency at Mount Clemens General Hospital. He practiced at Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital before founding The Radiology Clinic in Austintown, serving the local community for more than 20 years.

Even in retirement, he worked as a locum tenens physician into his 70s.

Albert met his wife, Iole Carlesimo, while an intern in Detroit. They married in 1969 and raised three children — Emidio, Mark and Anne Marie — in Canfield.

He is survived by his wife, three children, brother and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

Calling hours will be 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Canfield Chapel. Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, at St. Michael Roman Catholic Parish.
