Phyllis D. LaCivita 1932-2025

HUBBARD — It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Phyllis D. Pascarella LaCivita, who left this physical world at the age of 92 on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. A pillar of strength, love and unwavering devotion, she was the heart and soul of the LaCivita family.

Phyllis was born Dec. 17, 1932, at her home in Hubbard. She was the daughter of Patrick and Julia Pascarella. She was a 1950 graduate of Hubbard High School.

In 1951, Phyllis married James A. LaCivita and pursued her career as a secretary in Savannah, Georgia, where James was stationed in the United States Air Force. After his service, they returned home to Hubbard, where Phyllis retired from the Hubbard School System. She was a member of the Hubbard football moms and a member of St. Patrick Church.

Phyllis lived a life full of love, laughter and generosity. She was the proud mother of six children, a cherished grandmother, a great-grandmother and even a great-great-grandmother. Her love knew no bounds, and her family was her greatest joy.

Phyllis could be found in the kitchen at the family’s golf course, ensuring that no one ever went hungry. Her homemade pasta sauce, made without a recipe but always perfect, became legendary.

She had a knack for making everyone feel special, whether it was slipping her grandkids money when no one was looking or having coffee with the golfers in the morning. Her love and passion for QVC ensured there was always an abundance of purses, shoes, jewelry and soap. Her sense of style was unmatched and her love for life was evident in every little tradition she shared with those she loved.

A proud and loving grandmother, Phyllis never missed a milestone — birthdays, graduations, school dances — she was there for it all. Even when not present, she made sure to be part of the celebrations, reminding us all of the unbreakable bond she held with her family. She loved deeply and bragged endlessly about her family’s achievements, ensuring that everyone knew just how proud she was of each and every one of her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. LaCivita; her daughter, Karen P. LaCivita; her son, James M. LaCivita; her grandsons, Anthony L. LaCivita and Johnny R. Violi; her sisters, Mary Maloney and Patricia Carsone; and her brothers, Carl, Mike and James Pascarella.

She is survived by her son, Larry (Debbie) LaCivita of Hubbard; her daughters, Maria (Donald) Castner, Christine (Jeff DePoy) Mangan and Susan LaCivita, all of Hubbard; grandchildren, Angela (Chad) Beach, Dr. Kristie (Alexander) Chang, Rocco (Kristen) LaCivita, James LaCivita Jr., Christopher (Brandy) LaCivita, Mary Catherine (Garrett) Welch, CPL Jacob (Ashley) Castner, Justine (John) Hull, Dr. Elizabeth Mangan, Patrick (Kaitlyn) Mangan II, Anna Mangan and Jesse LaCivita; and several great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Though life will never be the same without her, we take comfort in knowing that she is watching over us, as she always did.

In honor of Phyllis, calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the Kelley-Cummins Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m., with Pastor Warren Sullivan officiating.

As Grandma would say, “I love you more.”

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
