Michael Patrick Link, 1941-2024
VIENNA — It is with great sadness the family of Michael Patrick Link announce his passing. He died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren, at the age of 83.
He was born April 16, 1941, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the oldest son of Michael and
Theresa Link.
On June 21, 1964, he married Gail Barbara Fralick.
He had lived in the Warren area since 1989. He graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1959. He entered the U.S. Army in 1964, leaving in 1966 after a tour of duty in Vietnam, resulting in awards of two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and numerous other U.S. and South Vietnamese government citations.
He held management roles with Lenox China in New Jersey and Schenuit Tire in Maryland in the 1960s before moving to Daytona Beach, Florida, in the early 1970s to help manage the family appliance repair firm, Mechanical Appliances. Later, he started Consumer Discount Warehouse in Daytona Beach, which sold appliances and grew into furniture and carpeting. In 1989, he moved to Warren to become the executive vice president of Ohio Sheet Steel and Plate, a role he held until his passing.
Service to others was important throughout his life, serving as a member of the Rotary Club for many years in Florida. In addition, he sponsored a Vietnamese family in 1975 and he remains close to the family to this day.
He helped many co-workers and friends over the years, providing support whenever needed.
His interests included car racing from early on, racing a Pontiac with NASCAR in the 1960s, his own cars in the early 1970s and 1980s and for the Warren Fabrication team in the late 1970s.
He played golf throughout the area for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Link of the Warren area; son, Michael Patrick Link II of Alexandria, Virginia; and his son and daughter-in-law, Jayson Louis Link and Dawn Elaine Link of Holly Hill, Florida; as well as four grandchildren, Soren Sheridan, Xavier Link, Grayson Link and Thayn Link.
A viewing will be 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483.
