Ted Chrobak 1937-2024

PULASKI, Pa. — Ted Chrobak, 87, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, with his loving family by his side.

He was born Aug. 5, 1937, in New Castle, Pa., to the late Ted S. and Bernice Servick Chrobak.

Ted married the former Jean Ellen Frew on Aug. 31, 1963, at Harmony Baptist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband and father to their two sons, Teddy and Todd. Together, Ted and Jean shared 60 years filled with joy, adventure and unwavering devotion to one another and to God.

As a young man, Ted enjoyed baseball and golf. He later coached the New Bedford Farm Team. He also enjoyed attending car shows, musical performances and plays.

Ted was a 1956 graduate of New Castle High School, earned a B.S. in engineering from Youngstown State University in 1962 and an M.S. in chemical engineering from West Virginia University in 1964. Additionally, he earned an M.S. in information science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986.

During his 43-year career at Youngstown State University, Ted served as professor and program coordinator in the computer science information systems department.

Throughout his career, Ted was awarded several National Science Foundation Scholarships. This led his family on numerous adventures where they traveled and lived in Missouri, Utah and Arizona. In 2006, Ted was named a YSU Faculty Emeritus.

Serving the Lord was at the forefront of Ted’s life. As a member of New Bedford Evangelical Presbyterian Church, he served several terms as an elder and mission committee member.

Left to cherish Ted’s memory is his devoted wife, Jean; and son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ted and Marie Chrobak.

His parents, Bernice and Ted S. Chrobak; his mother and father-in-law, Anna and Lawrence Frew; and a son, Todd L. Chrobak, preceded him in death.

Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at New Bedford Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Woodland Drive in New Bedford, Pa. The Rev. Dr. Daniel Muttart will officiate the service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Harmony Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to New Bedford Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
