Mathilda H. Woodward 1939-2024

Together again

STRUTHERS — Mathilda Helen Woodward, 85, formerly of Delaware, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at The Inn at Poland Way, surrounded by her loving family.

Mathilda, known by her family and friends as “Tillie,” was born April 10, 1939, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Michael Klein and Helen Sander Klein.

She graduated from East High School in 1957 and later from Choffin Career & Technical Center School of Nursing.

Tillie moved to Delaware in 1958 and later returned to the Mahoning Valley, returning to Struthers in 1962.

She was a licensed practical nurse, worked for Kent General Hospital in Delaware and was a devoted homemaker.

Tillie was an active member of Faith Fellowship Church of God in Youngstown for over 58 years. She taught children’s church and Sunday school for many years. When her children were young, Tillie was active in the Struthers PTA, where she belonged to the PTA bowling league. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Friday senior league at Holiday Bowl in Struthers.

Tillie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In her free time, Tillie enjoyed making crafts for family and friends.

Tillie is survived by five children, Daniel J. Woodward Jr. of Texas, David J. (Cathie) Woodward of Struthers, Jean M. (Jeff) Shade of Youngstown, Dale W. (Jeanette) Woodward of Myerstown, Pa., and Diana L.(Gary) Kubic of Bluffton; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Joseph (Lois) Klein of Poland.

Besides her parents, Tillie was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Daniel J. Woodward Sr., whom she married July 1, 1958, and who died October 18, 2018; a grandson, James Joshua Eaton; her four brothers, Bobby Klein, Michael Klein, John Klein and Rudy Klein; and her sister, Mary Kathryn Klein.

Family and friends may call 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. in Struthers, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Stephen Turner and Pastor Kenny Phillips officiating. Interment will take place in Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material tributes take the form of contributions to Faith Fellowship Church of God, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, OH 44507, in memory of Tillie.
