Susan Snyder 1930-2024
CANFIELD — Susan Snyder passed away peacefully, Monday, May 13, 2024, at her home, at the age of 93, with her family by her bedside.
She was born July 3, 1930, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Paul and Suzanna Kolesar Tomo. She grew up in Youngstown and graduated with the Class of 1948 from Chaney High School.
On Feb. 22, 1963, Susan married the love of her life, Arthur Dale Snyder. They were married for nearly 40 years until Dale’s passing, Feb. 20, 2003. Together they built a family and a home that was always welcoming and warm.
Susan leaves three children, Heidi Snyder, with whom she made her home, Beckie Binder and her husband, Larry, of Madison and Jeff Snyder and his wife, Wendy, of Springfield; and one stepdaughter, Elinor Zedaker of Poland; grandchildren, Rob Zedaker and his wife, Angela, John Zedaker and his partner, Ryan Johnson, Max Snyder and his wife, Stephanie, Madison Snyder and Emily Binder; one stepgrandson, Colin Beahn; two great-grandchildren, Robin and Alex Zedaker; as well as her loving and faithful companion, her dog, Shaylah.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Susan also dedicated many years to the Canfield Local School District as one of the custodians at the middle school.
She was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed crossword puzzles, books, cooking, family gatherings and polka music. Susan was very proud of her Slovak heritage.
Besides her parents and her husband, Dale, Susan was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, John, Andrew and Myron Tomo; as well as her son-in-law, Robert Zedaker.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, 3300 Canfield Road, Youngstown, OH 44511, with Pastor Duane Jesse officiating.
Family and friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, and again at the church 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Old North Cemetery in Canfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Zion Lutheran Church, www.zionohio.org; or to SouthernCare Hospice, 970 Windham Court #9, Youngstown, OH 44512, southerncarehospice.com, in Susan’s name.
