Theresa Polovischak 1927-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Theresa Polovischak, 97, passed away at Aventura at Humility House in Austintown, on

Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Theresa was born in the Brier Hill area of Youngstown, on Jan. 24, 1927, the daughter of the late Frank Parillo and Lucy Dominic Parillo.

Faith was the focus of her life. She prayed daily to St. Anthony of Padua and the Blessed Mother for her family and everyone who needed prayers.

She was the sacristan at St. Anthony of Padua Church for over 20 years. She always would say, “It was not a job, but an act of love for my church.”

She was a lifelong member of the church, the choir, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Auxiliary of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart.

To cherish her memory, Theresa leaves her daughters, Sue Ann (Terry) Rogers of Youngstown and Joan (Jeff) Gillis of Upper Arlington; and her three grandsons, Jonathan (Amanda) Rogers, Matthew and Christopher Gillis. Also surviving is her sister, Frances (Richard) Davies of Vero Beach, Florida.

Besides her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her husband, John Polovischak, whom she married Aug. 30, 1947 and who passed away Oct. 22, 1986; her infant twin brothers, John and Anthony Parillo; and sister and brother-in-law, Lucille (Jimmy) Stewart.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care extended to Theresa by the staff of Aventura at Humility House and Patriot Hospice.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave., Youngstown, with visitation at the church from 9 to 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Theresa’s name to Patriot Hospice, 986 Tibbetts Wick Road, Girard, OH 44420.

Theresa will be laid to rest next to her husband in Calvary Cemetery.
