Carolyn J. Mulichak 1937-2024

YOUNGSTOWN — Carolyn “Carol” J. Mulichak, formerly of Youngstown, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Hampton Woods.

She was born in New Castle, Pa., March 6, 1937, the daughter of the late David and Minnie Mitchell Clayton.

Carol graduated from the South High School Class of 1954. She married the love of her life, John “Jack” Mulichak, on July 28, 1956.

She went to work after graduation at the Bell Telephone Co. and The Youngstown Vindicator. Later after raising a family, she volunteered at Poland Methodist Church, working with the senior citizen group, Southside Hospital and the local LPGA tournaments.

Carol absolutely loved vacationing with her husband and her sons when they were little, and later with her son John and daughter-in-law Jeannie, going to California with her grandchildren to vacation with their Uncle Thom, and spending time with her family and friends.

Also, Carol loved to golf and enjoyed her many friendships in her golf league.

She especially looked forward to spending time with family and friends at the annual Steve Mulichak memorial golf outings and baggo tournaments, each graciously hosted by the Royal Oaks and the Kennedy family.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, John “JD” (Jeannie Herdman) Mulichak of Boardman and Thom (Wendy) Mulichak of Huntington Beach, California; grandson, Jack (Thea Hischak) Mulichak of Columbus; granddaughters, Jessie Costas (fiance James LaSalandra) of Boardman and Jamie Mulichak (Mitchell) Heidrich of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; great-granddaughters, Gabbi and Gia Costas of Boardman; great-grandsons, Xavier and Rowan Mulichak of Columbus; and great-granddaughter, Quinn Heidrich of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.

She also leaves her niece, Sally (Don) Kloes, who was like a daughter to Carol; and brother- and sister-in-law, Eugene and Sharon Mulichak.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Mulichak, who passed on Dec. 10, 2023; her son, Steve Mulichak; her parents; brothers, David and Donald Clayton; and sisters-in-law, Gail Shull Clayton and Nancy Zelina Williams; plus her mother- and father-in-law, Mary and John Mulichak; and brother- and sister-in-law, Robert and Elaine Mulichak.

Carol was a loving and compassionate person who always put others’ needs and concerns above her own; she was like a second mother and grandmother to many friends and family members.

The family asks that contributions may be made to the Steve E. Mulichak Memorial Youngstown State University Scholarship Fund, in memory of their son.
