William R. ‘Rusty’ Preston Jr. 1953-2024

BOARDMAN — William R. “Rusty” Preston Jr., 70, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, peacefully at home and surrounded by family.

He leaves his wife Lori, of nearly 40 years and his three children, James (Rusty), his pride and joy; Megan, his princess; and Ryan, his forever Spider-Man. Papa also leaves his beautiful granddaughter, Mila Rose Amato, who brought a whole new meaning into his life. He fought a tough battle but hung on long enough to see his Mila in her princess dress turn 3 on St. Patrick’s Day.

He also leaves two beautiful sisters, Cheryl Colton of Girard and Patti Adams of Canfield.

Rusty enjoyed the simple things in life — his perfectly manicured landscape, watching his Cleveland teams, and walking and spending time with his most faithful companion, “Titan.” His favorite family time was Halloween — a monthlong project of decorating and scaring as Mr. Michael Myers.

Rusty always wanted to be a quarterback and played that position throughout junior high and high school. But it was in the 1970 season, Rusty’s senior year at Boardman under coach Jim Orr, that Rusty led his team to a great season. The Spartans were 8-1 with their only loss at the hands of Ursuline, and, at the end of the season, Boardman had won the Steel Valley Conference Title. In October 1996, Rusty was honored by being inducted into the Boardman Hall of Fame.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Patriot Hospice. Two beautiful angels entered my door, Candice and Stacie.

Also, a special thank you goes to my little angel, “Gigi Angelilli,” for all your love and support.

Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the funeral home.
