Donald Charles Renzenbrink 1926-2024

POLAND — Donald Charles Renzenbrink, 97, passed away peacefully, Monday, March 25, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Youngstown, a son of the late Charles and Edith Freehling Renzenbrink. He was a United States Army veteran, serving during World War II and was stationed in Panama, attaining the rank of T5.

He worked 31 years at Metal Carbides Corporation, beginning and ending his time there as a finish grinder. He worked about 18 years part-time at Blattman Brothers as a cutter grinder. He held many elected offices in U.S.W. Local 2879, including president. He also retired from Boardman schools as a bus driver. He was active in his church as an elder, as well as many other duties. He loved all sports, but mainly the Cleveland Indians and Browns. He also was a member of the Saxon Club.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Debra Rolland of Youngstown and Diane (Nick) Gavolas of Poland; his grandchildren, Michael R. Kennedy of Youngstown, Stephen M. (Amanda) Gavolas of Fairview Park and Alan J. (Amelia) Gavolas of Boardman; his great-grandchildren, Solomon Kennedy and Aiden Gavolas; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Dolores Rita Longstreet, whom he married May 26, 1951, and who passed Dec. 5, 2020; his brothers, Harrison Renzenbrink and Charles Renzenbrink Jr.; and his son-in-law, Robert J. Rolland.

Friends will be received 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, and again 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2024, followed immediately by a funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m.

He will be laid to rest with his wife in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to Bethel Friends Church, 2771 Spitler Road, Youngstown, OH 44514, in his memory.
