Joseph L. Burkholder 1951-2023

Joseph was born June 29, 1951, in Frostburg, Md., the son of William and Anna K. McKenzie Burkholder.

Joe joined the Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked at Schwebel’s Bakery as a receiver for 46 years, retiring in 2014.

Burkey enjoyed watching NASCAR; golfing; baking pies, especially his apple pies; and having breakfast with his Schwebel’s buddies. He spent time traveling out West and Texas, and loved his trips to Rehoboth Beach. What he found most enjoyable was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Janice Paladenic Burkholder, whom he married May 29, 1976; his children, Joseph (Renee) Burkholder of Tallmadge; Shawn (Lizeth) of Escondido, Calif.; and Melissa (Jeff) Fleshman of Dallas, Texas; brothers, Dan (Marylou) Burkholder of Boardman and Bill (Sally) Burkholder of Charlotte, N.C.; and grandchildren, Hannah, Emily, JoJo, Shawny, Simone, Everett, Cora and Vienna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Burkholder.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2023, at Blackstone Funeral Home, where family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Second Harvest Food Bank or Toys for Tots, in Joseph’s memory.
