Bernard G. Locke Jr. 1948-2022

SALEM — Bernard G. “Bernie” Locke Jr., of North Jackson, passed away Saturday morning, July 23, 2022, at Grace Woods Senior Living in Salem. He was 73.

Born Oct. 6, 1948, in East Liverpool, he was a son of the late Bernard G. Locke Sr. and Irma Capehart Locke.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he retired as an inspector from the GM Lordstown Plant.

He was a graduating member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1967 and later earned a degree in philosophy from Youngstown State University.

He was also a member of the North Jackson Lions Club and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown. He coached girls’ softball for the Hotstove League, including a team that won the state championship in 1988.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Suzanne Locke-Shinn and her husband, Jason, of Salem, and Victoria McFarland and her husband, John, of Austintown; and a son, Eric Locke Sr. of Austintown. There are five grandchildren: Branden Packard, Cassandra Vega, Kara Locke, Grace McFarland and Eric Locke Jr. In addition, he leaves a brother, Kenneth R. Locke and his wife, Ruth, of Cape Coral, Fla.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Sharyl Jane Locke, and a brother, Richard Paul Locke.

Friends may visit from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Dawson Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Cemetery.
