Joseph M. Micchia Sr. 1941-2022
WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Joseph M. Micchia Sr., 81, formerly of Sharon, Pa. and Youngstown, passed away peacefully at Hillside Nursing Center, on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
Joe was born in Youngstown, to Anna and Frank Micchia Sr., on Jan. 1, 1941. He graduated from The Rayen School and Youngstown State University. He married the former Kathleen Snover on June 30, 1962. They were married for 59 years. Joe worked for JCPenney, GATX and Wheatland Tube before retiring and moving to North Carolina to be near his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Scharville (Michael), Joseph Micchia Jr. (Gina) and Thomas Micchia (Twila); his grandchildren, Michael (Abigail), Thomas (Juliana), Gabrielle, Juliana, Nicole, Avery and Ian; great-grandchildren, Theo and Penelope; his brother, Frank Micchia Jr. (Marcie); Joanne Clay (Jack), Linda Kaydo; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Micchia; and his parents, Anna Micchia and Frank Micchia Sr.
Joe was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Joe enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. Growing up in his father’s Italian restaurant, Joe continued to enjoy cooking, especially baking cakes and cookies for everyone to enjoy, especially his grandchildren. When not cooking or baking, he enjoyed painting and gardening. He enjoyed spending time on his front porch waiting for the neighborhood dogs to visit and get their treats.
Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following, Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. The memorial service will be recorded and posted for those who are unable to attend.
