Suzanne Elaine Wilson 1943-2022

RICHMOND, Va. — Suzanne Elaine McCarthy Wilson, 78, passed away Feb. 22, 2022, in Richmond, Va.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis Joseph McCarthy and Grace Eleanor Sheldon McCarthy, and son, Brian Leslie Wilson.

Suzanne is survived by her devoted husband, Les; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Katherine; beloved granddaughters, Claire McCarthy Wilson and Caitlin Jane Wilson; sister, Kathleen Trzeciak of Gibsonia, Pa.; brother-in-law, Edward Wilson of Canfield; sister-in-law, Peg Wilson of West Des Moines, Iowa; and numerous cousins. Suzanne loved being an aunt and great-aunt to her many nieces and nephews and their families.

Suzanne was born and raised in Youngstown. She graduated from Boardman High School, where she met the love of her life. After marrying, Suzanne and Les spent the next 57 years building a life, home, and family based on their love. They moved to Virginia with the U.S. Navy, and later, Les’s job took them to Norfolk, Va., Atlanta, Ga., Johnson City, Tenn., Newport News, Va., and finally to Richmond. At all their stops, they made lifelong friends and connections.

Suzanne’s grace, spirit, and smile will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her. She had the gift of gab, numerous friends, and a sense of style that will not be forgotten. Her years as a member of the Stonehenge Garden Club and Midlothian Women’s Club led to many close friendships and good times. Her impeccable sense of style led Suzanne to organize the Midlothian Women’s Club’s annual fashion show. Each Christmas, she took great pride in serving the Chesterfield Christmas Mother program. Shopping for the children and their families brought her tremendous joy. Nothing made Suzanne happier than a day at the beach listening to the waves and seeing the sunset.

The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and doctors at VCU’s Acute Oncology clinic, Hospice of Virginia, and the Bon Secours Community Hospice House for their kindness, compassion, and the excellent care they gave Suzanne.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at Bliley’s Funeral Home, Augusta Avenue, Richmond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Richmond.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Suzanne’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House Charities Richmond.
