Helen R. Berkany 1929-2021

Helen was born May 14, 1929, in Youngstown, a daughter of Lewis and Mary McKelvey Rosenberger. Helen lived in this area her whole life.

Helen worked at the General Electric Lamp Plant. She was of the Catholic faith and a former member of St. Stephen of Hungary Church. Helen was an avid bowler and pool league player. She loved doing ceramics, and was a good baker and cook, especially pies and kolachi. She loved going to casinos and treasured time spent with her family.

Helen married Ernest “Ernie” Berkany on June 2, 1956. He passed away Jan. 28, 2008.

Helen is survived by three daughters, Jan (Tom) Roble of Youngstown, Dianne (Keith) Gates of Pulaski, Pa. and Linda (Allen) Phillips of Austintown. She also leaves her grandchildren, Melissa Ramsey, Danielle Lawrence, Ed Wiser, Brandon Gates and Jenna Gates; and four great-grandchildren, Charlette, Zakaria, Ameena and Coda.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; and several brothers and sisters.

Services for Helen are private.

Funeral arrangements have been handled by Szabo and Sons Funeral Home.
