Margaret M. Velasquez 1939-2021
BOARDMAN — Margaret M. “Marge” Velasquez, 81, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Marge was born on Nov. 23, 1939, in Youngstown, the daughter of Michael and Margaret Sherlock McKenna.
Marge was very proud of her Irish Catholic heritage. She was a member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she attended grade school. Marge was a 1957 graduate of East High School. After graduation, she worked as a comptometrist for the A&P grocery store company in Youngstown.
She married Geraldo Velasquez on Sept. 8, 1962. The two were inseparable throughout their 50 years of marriage until his passing June 24, 2012. Their strong faith, along with their commitment to one another, served as an example to their six children of the value of family.
Throughout her life, Marge enjoyed ceramics and playing with friends in a local volleyball league. However, her greatest passion in life, by far, was her family. She enjoyed having her children and grandchildren over for weekly Sunday morning breakfast. Preparing meals for large family gatherings and always making the holidays extra special.
Marge’s greatest joy in life was raising her family. She will always be remembered lovingly by her six children, Kevin (Sharon Roncone) Velasquez, Margee (Dan) DiGiacomo, Jerry (Carrie) Velasquez, Tom (Shannon) Velasquez, Karen (Ken) Clark, and Doug (Michele) Velasquez; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson, with a second great-grandson anticipated to arrive in the fall. She also leaves a brother, Patrick (Cathy) McKenna of Austintown, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda, and two siblings, Elizabeth and Michael McKenna.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman.
There will be a 9 a.m. prayer service Monday, July 19, 2021, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave., Youngstown, with the Very Rev. Vincent DeLucia, O.P. as officiant.
