Roman Ploskodniak 1951-2021

CANFIELD — Roman Ploskodniak, 69, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes early Tuesday morning, May 11, 2021, at his home.

Roman was born July 16, 1951, in Grenoble, France, a son of Steve and Mychalina Chukla Ploskodniak. He came to America and Youngstown with his family as a child and graduated from South High School in 1969.

Mr. Ploskodniak attended Youngstown State University for a time, and worked in security at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital for 15 years.

Roman was an avid reader and devoted his later years to caring for his mother.

He was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church in Austintown.

Roman leaves his mother, Mychalina Ploskodniak, with whom he shared his home; three brothers, William (Sharon) Ploskodniak of Weathersfield Township, John Ploskodniak of Napoleon and Bohdan Ploskodniak of Canfield, who surrendered his medical license to also care for his mother; nieces and nephews, Andrew, Nicholas, Oksana, Orisha, Michael and Alex; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

His father preceded him in death.

Family and friends may gather from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church on the northeast corner of Kirk and Raccoon Roads in Austintown, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. If attending, follow all current health and safety protocols. To those unable to pay respects in person, or are uncomfortable doing so, keep Roman and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Interment will follow the church service, and will be in Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home in Youngstown.
