Why Democrats should shun Hasan Piker

Hasan Piker, the far-left streamer, is having a bit of a moment. Democrats are quarreling over whether he should be kept at arm’s length. What kind of opinionator is Piker? He said in 2019 that the United States “deserved 9/11.” When someone challenged him online about his anti-Israel rants, Piker replied with vituperation: “You ... baying pig. You ... bloodthirsty violent pig dog.” In the same clip, referring to Rep. Dan Crenshaw, Piker praised the al Qaida terrorist who disfigured him. “What the ... is wrong with this dude? Didn’t he go to war and like literally lose ...

Dr. Amy Acton’s record is worthy of praise

DEAR EDITOR: Remember the COVID-19 pandemic? Remember how frightened the ENTIRE world was in March of 2020? Our Republican Gov. Mike DeWine had already chosen Dr. Amy Acton to head the health department. He trusted her and together they got us through those uncertain days. However, once things settled, many of us no longer felt the fear or the need to salute the medical workers, teachers, truck drivers or cared to wear masks. Life went on, thankfully, for many of us. Many were left to mourn those we lost. I am truly thankful for the calm direction from Dr Acton during that time. She ...

The pope, 3 cardinals and the Iran war

“War is Hell,” said Union General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1879. Pope Leo and three cardinals of the Catholic Church who appeared last Sunday on “60 Minutes,” agree. The problem for these theologians is that for them it appears war is only Hell when it is engaged in by the United States and for the best of reasons. They have little to say about the terrorist regime in Iran or for that matter the slaughter of civilians by Vladimir Putin’s army in Ukraine. These church leaders seem to be engaging in a kind of immoral equivalency. Do they not know that the Islamic regime ...

Criticism of Campbell misses the mark

DEAR EDITOR: As Trumbull County sheriff, I am responsible for overseeing the operation of the Trumbull County Jail. Since taking office, the facility has consistently operated at or above its intended capacity. Managing inmate population levels is an ongoing challenge. To remain in compliance with legal requirements and ensure safe operations, we regularly communicate with courts across the county. At times, we ask judges to review cases involving individuals currently in custody to determine whether adjustments to sentencing or bond conditions may be appropriate. These efforts are ...

Comstock should not be allowed to run

DEAR EDITOR: With all due respect to print journalism, shouldn’t The Vindicator/Tribune Chronicle be calling for an investigation into the “misapplication of deadly force” mentioned in the last “Sound Off” comment in the Feb.28/March 1 weekend edition? As I interpret the last comment in the “Sound Off” section of the Feb. 28/March 1 weekend edition, attorney David Comstock has involved himself in a cover-up of some sort. Therefore, should Comstock be allowed to run for a judgeship on the 7th District Court of Appeals under such wicked circumstances? JOHN S. ...

Revoking EPA finding will endanger us all

DEAR EDITOR: For 16 years the EPA Endangerment Finding helped protect our environment and our heath and was an important tool in fighting climate change. The “endangerment finding” is the EPA’s scientific and legal conclusion that the Clean Air Act requires regulation of greenhouse gas emissions to protect public health and welfare. The EPA issued the finding in the Supreme Court’s 2009 Massachusetts v. EPA decision. But the Trump EPA has revoked the endangerment finding, which endangers us all. The decision relies on misinterpretations of the law, fringe science, and tortured ...
