Revoking EPA finding will endanger us all

DEAR EDITOR:

For 16 years the EPA Endangerment Finding helped protect our environment and our heath and was an important tool in fighting climate change. The “endangerment finding” is the EPA’s scientific and legal conclusion that the Clean Air Act requires regulation of greenhouse gas emissions to protect public health and welfare. The EPA issued the finding in the Supreme Court’s 2009 Massachusetts v. EPA decision.

But the Trump EPA has revoked the endangerment finding, which endangers us all. The decision relies on misinterpretations of the law, fringe science, and tortured cost analysis to justify a conclusion that the EPA cannot and should not regulate greenhouse gases. After issuing the revocation EPA administrator Lee Zeldin even encouraged climate skeptics to celebrate this tragic decision. Presumably the fossil fuel industry, which has known about the reality of climate change for decades but values profits over people and the environment, is celebrating too.

Americans will suffer from more heat and extreme weather events, more air pollution from fossil vehicles, and more delays in responding to the climate crisis. We don’t have to accept this. We need to remember that this is a Trump/MAGA policy and vote against them in 2026 and 2028.
