Sex offender gets life prison sentence
WARREN — A man who already served three years in prison for convictions on charges of sexual battery and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles in Mahoning County was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for child sex offenses committed in Trumbull County.
Jeremiah Rodriguez, 32, was secretly indicted by a Trumbull County grand jury in February on 17 charges, including four courts of first-degree rape with a sexually violent predator specification, nine counts of gross sexual imposition with one sexually violent predator specification, two counts of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material/performance, one count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles and one count of failure to register as a sex offender.
He pleaded guilty Wednesday before Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Judge Cynthia Westcott to three counts of child rape, four counts of gross sexual imposition, one count each of illegal use of minor in nudity-oriented material or performance and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles.
Westcott sentenced Rodriguez to life in prison with his first chance for parole after he serves 15 to 17.5 years, court records show. He also was declared a Tier 3 sexual offender, which means that Rodriguez will have to register with the sheriff’s office for the rest of his life if he is released from prison.
Rodriguez served his prison term at the Lorain Correctional Institution and was placed on supervised release in February 2022. The new charges stemmed from alleged crimes that occurred in Trumbull County on June 1, 2023 — after Rodriguez was released from prison and while he was on parole, according to the Trumbull County Prosecutor’s Office.
Rodriguez was sentenced by Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge Maureen Sweeey on June 26, 2019, to three years in prison on a third-degree felony charge of sexual battery. He was given credit for 628 days spent at the Mahoning County jail awaiting trial, according to court records.
The prosecutor’s office stated the new charges involved victims who are now 7 and 8 years old, meaning the alleged offenses occurred when they were between 4 and 5 years old.
Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabriel Wildman stated Rodriguez was investigated after a cyber tip alerted to pornography on his electronic devices. The investigation led to the two children, whom Rodriguez showed pornography to, and then evidence that he created pornographic material. It was learned he had sexual relations with both children on numerous occasions.
